1.3 jazz vs. 1.5 jazz

i'd rather get a 1.5 Jazz than a 1.8 low-end Civic.

primarily because of the exterior add-ons and safety features. amazingly, Honda didn't include ABS and airbags in the low-end Civic

You know, I don't consider the Jazz as a mini-car. Parang kasing luwag ng Jazz ang Civic and Altis sa loob. It has a respectable trunk space at the back even if the seats are not folded. Itsura lang maliit but once you own one, parang ang laki nya.

airbag? abs? capable engine? id rather go for this than the entry level civic. pagtabihin mo, mas maganda naman ang vtec na jazz sa entry level na civic ( at least sa looks hehe )

yup, the newer 1.3S models no longer have ABS and airbags as features.

In terms of hauling cargo, the Jazz with its U.L.T second row seats is far more useful and flexible. However, when it comes to seating five people inside, any compact car (Civic, Corolla Altis, Optra, Lancer, Sentra, etc) would definitely feel much more comfortable than any subcompact (ie. Jazz, City, Vios, Aveo, Getz, Picanto, etc..)

As for the thread starter's inquiry, I think the 1.5 VTEC is a MUCH better buy than the 1.3S bec. you get the following for only Php 82,000 on top of the price of a 1.3S

yes twin sparks. 8 valves only. No variable valve timing. Very high compression ratio. Optimized purely for low-RPM.

1.3 Jazz with ABS and Airbags were available in 2004 only. The following year (2005) when they relesed the 1.5 Vtec, they phased out those feature for the 1.3 and placed them on the 1.5 VTEC unit only. Even the new facelifted 2006 Jazz 1.3 S still has NO airbags or ABS, only the 1.5V has them.

RE: twin spark - pretty nifty feature, too bad the engine is too small to have both twin spark plugs and VTEC at the same time, as that would have given the 1.5 even better fuel economy and torque.

Sorry but I beg to differ. I owned a Sentra before and the Jazz space for 5 adults is bigger than the Sentra. I don't think you could put the Jazz in terms of interior space with the Aveo, Getz, Picanto. Even probably with the Vios.

We were able to fit 7 people total in the Jazz, may space pa for 2.

2 sa harap, 4 sa likod, 1 sa cargo space. Power wasn't that bogged down, pero nakalagay sa S yung shifter para lower gears yung ginagamit. I'm sure with vtec no need to put it sa S.

Sayang nga, agree ako kay Niky, sana 8 sparkplugs to maximize torque and have it equipped with vtec para high end power utilized. Now, you have power at low rpm and high rpm.

the jazz is very deceptive. it looks very tight and cramped from the outside, but its actually very, very spacious on the inside. credit this to the ingenious and forward looking designers of honda

btw, in my experience w/ the 1.3 cvt, acceleration isn't really a problem once you get used to playing w/ the electronic gear shifting. i use this feature often in the city and also most especially during out of town trips. the car is so spritely it can surely hold its own

I really like the 1.3 engine, even though it's kind of gutless over 80 km/h. It'll still get you past the speed limit on those long highway stretches. And I can't wait to see that modified 1.5 again on our next track-day.

RE: space? Seat space is really good, even better than some compacts, in terms of legroom, but it's not as wide as a modern Altis, Corolla or Mazda3. But we're talking one or two-elbow-widths... not really that much if you're used to cramming people in pinoy-style.

Our record is 9 guys (pero high-school pa ito, so that includes two or three 90 pounders) in a Toyota Corolla... a 70's Corolla, actually.

My recent record is 9 people in a 00' Sentra. Short distance only, back-streets, emergency... because normally, I won't let anyone ride without fastening their seatbelts. Of course, since the Sentra's suspension tuning is so soft, the whole thing squeaked for weeks afterwards.

Medyo OT. My college days we crammed 11 in a Holden Premiere. 3 guys and 8 petite chicks.

Well, the Sprinter was quite a lot smaller than the Premier... and much smaller than the current Jazz. I really wish they'd have released the Jazz a year or two earlier. With the extra money left over from buying the Lynx RS (Laser 2.0 to you guys...), we could've plunked a downpayment on the Jazz 1.3.

Regarding the passenger space, I was talking about seating people inside the Jazz comfortably[the operative word here]and safely (using the seatbelts).

I'm not a big person (150 pounds, 5'6) but I find it cramped sitting at the passenger cabin of a mid-sized sedan (Toyota Corona EX-Saloon Exsior) along with two other people of the same size. For the Jazz, I sat in the passenger cabin and I estimate, it can seat another person of my size comfortably. Yeah sure another can fit in the middle, a child maybe.

^I really dont know how do people manage to cramp in that kind of space. Btw, how long were ur passengers in their constricted positions? Its also amazing how ur uncle and cousin managed to fit in the trunk?

Ps:What happened to their Grandia? Isn't that vehicle a few months old? Let me guess what ails it : D4-D?

The grandia is half a year old now.. The grandia just died on us..

I'm the tallest being 6'1. The rest of the family's height ranged from 5'8-5'3.
Weight would range from 230lbs- 100lbs

If it's comfortably, yeah, the Jazz is about a 4.5, or 5 if it's all girls in the back.

RE: Overloading... hehe... remember, this is for emergency use only, the rear suspensions on most mass market vehicles can't take that kind of constant abuse... not to mention the handling, braking and safety issues.

But hey, this is the Philippines... we're used to crowded, uncomfortable and unsafe riding conditions (whatever happened to the proposed seatbelt law for buses... and what about jeeps?)
