Hello po to everybody and fellow tsikoteers

At the moment Im expecting P300k to be as budget, and been seeing Escapes ranging from P300k+ to P400k+, and i'm eyeing for Automatic for my lovable wife. I think i could find ways to increase my budget. The problem is hindi po ako masyadong maalam sa saakyan and i dont know how should i consider the, hopefully, 1st car namin. We are four in the family. We have a 12yo & 5yo. Ang nakakatawa both our kids have wishes for the, hopefully, 1st car namin. Although in years, meron ako auto na nagagamit from our company. but this time gusto ko magkaron ng matatawag namin na "sa amin". This time, my son, gusto nya yung maluwag-luwag daw para sa long travel. My sweet little girl wanted naman na may Sunroof. Being a simple man that i am, but i always wanted to give the best for my family with the best of my ability and ofcourse sa tulong nyo po

Pero syempre po, on top of their wishes, ang concerns ko are:

    1st - Fuel Consumption
    2nd - Maintenance
    3rd - Durability
    4th - Looks...hehehe! (just being honest po)

Im not much into speed as i'll be driving almost everyday with my wife and weekends with kids. And summer is just around the corner so my plans na kami to be here and there (and everywhere ).

Sana po matulungan nyo ko if should i consider or not the Ford Escape

Many thanks po in advance. Hoping for your kind advices & tips.

Well... The Escape V6 is a very durable, comfortable and spacious car, has a sunroof, automatic transmission, very good engine performance and handling and fits your budget not to mention that its pretty good looking too... If you don't mind the approximately 5km/L city driving gas mileage that is. Yun lang iisang hindi papasok is the rather poor gas mileage, will you be able to sacrifice that MINOR detail for the happiness of your whole family?

Of course there's still the 2.0L variant selling for 300+k (no more sunroof) but since you only want the A/T variant, performance is poor due to an undeserving transmission with odd gear shift points and gas mileage is only marginally better than the V6 variant at slightly better than 6km/L. If you can stretch your budget to 400+k, there's the newer 2.3L version with much better performance AND fuel economy. Still no sunroof though.

The Escape as a whole is a very good car, especially for families. Its very sturdily built, even more so than most CUVs in its class and has excellent performance (all except for the 2.0A/T variant) and handling. In fact we have a 2003 Escape 2.0XLT 4x4 in the family.

for me sir sa looks maganda ang ford escape, walang duda,

    matibay din.

pero mukhang di papasok sir ang maintenance dito at fuel consumption. ang lakas neto sa gas eh. i do not know much about this car but my friend owns one. na kwento nya sakin na mahal daw ang maintenance, casa kasi siya PMS eh. mahal daw parts sabi nya at service.

my friend drives one, sabi nya from her house (binangonan rizal) to CEU (our school) 500 gas nya, one way pa lang yun. pabalik pa. bale 1k na kagad yun. dami din heavy traffic na nadadaanan kasi. so malakas FC niya.

I agree with the poor FC pero hindi naman siguro ganon ka poor... Anong variant ba yan? 3.0V6 ba? Our Escape 2.0XLT goes to Antipolo regularly, once a week (we live in QC) pero hindi naman ganon katindi... As for maintenance, I'll have to very shamefully say that the Escape is the most neglected car in our house. Basically nilalaspag yan ng primary user (my aunt).

Kaskasero ba yung friend mo, bro? By the looks of it nasa 4-5km/L ang nakukuha nya ah based on the distance you gave at yung sinabi mo na 500 one way. Pero the V6 is the only one that is supposed to drink gas that way... I've got feedback from various other Tsikoteers who have the 2.3 version at sabi naman nila na umaabot at lumalampas daw naman ng 7km/L sa pure city driving yun if driven with a light foot.

The space and comfort of the Escape are good, parts are available and durability is really a matter of how the previous owner used and maintained the vehicle. Its a good family car if you ask me. Chances are though, madidihado ka with the FC if that's one of your main concerns and you're used to a 1.3L to 1.6L vehicle and you drive a lot in high traffic areas, with a heavy foot.

If you want a sunroof, acceptable FC, comfort and parts/service availability which your wife may enjoy, the only other car i can think of is the Nissan Sentra Exalta (2000 to 2001 model).

Sir GTi, thank you very much po sa reply. Regarding FC, i think i could consider the 5km/L for my family..hehehe! gusto ko lang talaga pagbigyan yung prinsesa ko eventhough wala syang alam sa sasakyan and her request is just a petty since money is concern.

About the 2.0L A/T variant. When you say poor performance due to underserving transmission, meaning po ba eh pumapalya ang shifting? (pasensya na po talaga at wala akong alam sa technical ng sasakyan) And, sunroof feature po ba is nasa 3L lang?

If ever i-disregard ko po ang sunroof, mas okay po ba to be settled in like the escape you have in your family na '03, 2.0XLT 4x4?

Thank you very much po Sir ericson21 sa reply info. So i think i really have to check this matters as expensive maintenance is no joke.

For everyday driving, Manila kasi ang place ko and my work is in Manila, do you think po ba na okay pa din i-consider yung distance if im still going for Ford Escape?

Thank very much po sir vinj sa reply. Yes, since the start sedans po talaga ang nada-drive ko. This would the first compact SUV (correct me if i'm wrong) na ida-drive ko if ever. I really don't want to disregard the FC per im after the toughness and durability. Kasi if magkakaproblema sa Gas, pwede kami mag comute ni misis or to drive with an aircon off...hahaha!

Thank you po, sir. I will include the Exalta on my list.

*sirs, GTi, ericson21, vinj: Thank you very much po sa replies and i really appreciate it. I think i'm gonna go with the Escape once i have the money on hand. Si misis na lang ang hinihingan ko ng approval kasi she worked with Isuzu before and basic knowledge nya sa sasakyan is Masakit sa ulo ang mga sasakyan na hindi Toyota, Honda & Isuzu...hehehe!

Last favor po, if my money could only reach 300k+ what kind of Escape should i look for and should be considered like, milage, class/type of engine (disregarding the sunroof). Same din po if i could get 400k+, what kind of Escape should i get (pero w/ sunroof).

Again, maraming maraming salamat po. And to our fellow tsikoteers.

About the sun roof, the rubber seals tend to crack due to the hot climate here in Manila leading to leaks and the rubbers seals are very hard to find and expensive to purchase and install...
So think about it if you really want a sun roof here, and especially summer is fast approaching the heat would easily get into the car since the glass of the sunroof would just conduct the heat directly into the interior and with the lack of insulation just some vinyl/fabric cover it could compromise interior comfort.

And may I suggest you look at the MAZDA TRIBUTE, aesthetic wise I prefer this over an escape... and since this is just a escape with MAZDA badges it would fit your preference perfectly, 2004-2006 models can go below Php 400,000

*sm2by - message well noted sir with many thanks. i really appreciate your inputs. Now that's 1 thing i should really consider. Siguro i-erase ko na yung sunroof. Im sure kahit 5yo pa lang baby ko she would understand . I will check the Mazada Tribute.

What are the pros and cons with the Mazda Tributes po mga sirs?

eto lang masasbi ko sa Ford Escape, comfortable- driver and passenger, very cool ang aircon, matibay, parts are readily available recto and banawe,
elegante ang dating, fuel consumption hindi naman kasi from dasmarinas to tondo manila kasama na matinding traffic sa imus at bacoor, 500 pesos lang balikan na.

Sir last year I also considered buying this car based on my research during that time ang pinakamurang variant na pede mo makuha is yung mga 3.0l na V6 which is medyo malakas sa gas just try to strech your budget to 350k kasi yun ang range na medyo ok na klase makukuha mo. Another option is the Mazda tribute as suggested by others here you can get a 2006 model for 350k to 400k which is mura kaso puro V6 ang makina. The thing I liked about the escape/tribute is pang harabas ang dating kahit malubak at medyo baha ok lang gamitin. Good luck TS.

The 3.0L v6 does around 5++ to a liter in city driving i think. I asked my friend who has one (3.0L v6 converted to LPG) and he does 6km/L in the gas mode and 4.5km/L in LPG (they're still fine tuning the LPG AFAIK). If youre going for the Escape, get this and be happy. You'll have more power, the sunroof of your daughter, and the FC isn't too far off from the smaller engines it seems

Yes, the Tribute is similar to the Escape 3.0 (in 2-wheel drive guise) and i think it does have a sunroof (can anyone confirm this?).

On top of your budget, you also have set aside another 20K to 30K for maintenance and repairs; it is a second hand and you want to do a general service at the least to make sure its running well.

Wow! I salute you sir! Napakamahaling tatay! Yung 2.0XLT 4x4 namin is a very comfortable and durable car. But performance is erratic due to the transmission's odd gear ratios. It doesn't seem to know when to shift and when to hold a gear. For instance you'd be crawling slow at around 2000rpm, but with just a wee bit of a slightly heavier press of the throttle, it'll immediately downshift and be screaming at 4000-5000rpm. And since the car behaves that way, and also due to the heavy weight of the car, gas mileage is severely compromised.

And yes! I ought to be whacked for forgetting the Mazda Tribute. Its basically a rebadged Ford Escape with the 157hp 2.3L engine from the very start and available in 4x2 guise only. Oh and good news! This one has the power moonroof option for all variants! Only thing I have against it is the looks... The Escape simply looks a lot better. The interior is almost the same though I have a feeling of it looking like a converted RHD Escape. due to the shape of the side air vents, which are on the other side of the car in the Escape.

As for the woes regarding the sunroof seals. I believe that won't be happening any time soon. You'd still have around, say ten years more before you should even start worrying about such things. Though it'll be best if you park in a covered garage or at least invest in a car cover.
