June 1st, 2016 07:10 PM #1Hi Guys,
I would like to ask for your advises on which car to buy for my Brother.
He is still a new driver so it would be better to have an A/T vehicle.
We are already considering the following:
Civic FD
Altis
2nd Gen Vios 1.3 or 1.5
1st Gen Yaris
Though we prefer the FD since we own an FD before, he might have a hard time with the clearance of the FD since it is quite wide.
I'm still open for other suggestions though. Hope to have your inputs on this.
Thank you!

June 1st, 2016 08:37 PM #3if you want a smaller car, get an older altis, or the vioses / yarises.
none of my kakilalas who started out with AT, ever learned to drive MT afterward.
i suggest start with MT first. it's very easy to do AT, once one learns MT. he can even alternate.
some people, however, say AT na lang, because MTs are becoming obsolete.
it's your call, po.Last edited by dr. d; June 1st, 2016 at 08:48 PM.

June 1st, 2016 09:37 PM #4This is easy.
1. You have a budget that could buy a ~5 year old car. This is the usual cycle for people to get a new car. A well maintained 5 year-old car still looks and runs like a new one.
2. You have a list of cars, all these are good cars, you can't go wrong with these. In addition, you might want to consider 2010/11 City.
3. AT or MT is irrelevant, he'd learn both anyway. Condition of the car, since pre-owned, is more important.
I'd say, shop around based on your list. Buy the best conditioned car you can find within your budget.

You may want to look at other car manufacturers...
Older Toyota cars only had an AT option for their top of the line models...
You might get a newer car if you look at Hyundai models... (although resale value will suffer when its time for you to upgrade)
IMO, no need for him to learn manual! Cars of the future might not even need drivers

BTW... You may want to share your brother's daily route...
When I was in college (learning to drive) I cannot get a AT car since my school has a rich history of floods...
