guys how come my E36 have lesser parts replaced than your E46s? im past 50k kms..although i have replaced cooling system parts and some interior bits but not as numerous as yours..afaik E36s are more fragile than E46s

Dami na din ako napalitan with my car but it's all worth it. It would be good to have a good sound sytem in your E36 to deafen the squeaks of a 10 year old car =). tagal na nga pala itong thread, bigla na lang huminto yun post. I wonder what happened to all those na nagbabalak bumili.

For those concerned with maintenance cost:

I drive (and absolutely love) a '90 E34 525i that started needed major repairs only nung nag-10 yrs old sya. Major items: 2000 - a/c condenser, 2001 - cylinder head gasket (small pero sobra kakainis), headlight module, 2003 - radio & alternator, 2004 - replace fanbelt pulleys & 1 rear power window motor. Yung malala was 2005, had to replace a lot of suspension bits, both front power window motors, fuel pump & ignition module (all these things lasted 15 yrs, driving almost daily!)

Besides these, once a year service lang.

The only 2 real problems with my E34 was:
1.) Change batteries every year (sakit daw ito ng mga E34) - but this stopped when I got Optima batteries.
2.) M20 engine! Talo sa mga VTEC sa arrangkada (but panalo pa rin ako sa recta). I gotta content myself na mga cars older than 1996 lang mga kaya ko.

Btw, am very satisfied with the work done by that new service company of Basic/Delodur.

Basics is on the Citibank side of Libis, when you see Goodah, dun ka pumasok. Basics is where you can buy the parts you need, pero kung magpapagawa ka mas ok sa Top Gear, which is in the magnolia house side of aurora blvd. kung galing ka greenhills, pag abot mo sa aurora blvd, darecho ka lang going to magnolia house, then when you see the next MRT station, turn right, makikita mo na yun na nasa right side ng street. Ok naman kausap mga tao dun.

hello to e46 owners out here!

tanong ko lang if you encountered a problem with the car having no power when accelerating. initially i experienced this in higher speeds when accelerating even when stepping on the accelerator there is no response. but last night on the way home from standstill at a stoplight the car was sputtering already and stepping on the gas doesn't yield any response at all and it stalled.

i called the service manager of the dealership and he suspects it might be the fuel pump/fuel filter caused by bad quality fuel. i've only filled up in the same petron station the last 4 times with blaze but he said i should switch to velocity.

anyway if any of you have encountered this problem any feedback is highly appreciated. and also based on your own experiences what gas do you use to fill up your rides?

i use velocity. once i tried going with plain unleaded (93 ron) when gas prices shot up to ridiculous levels before but i encountered rough idling so i switched back to velocity. sabi sa kin ng bmw service advisor ko na "gummy" daw and ordinary unleaded so i should just keep on using velocity

i initially used velocity but since blaze had a higher ron rating i switched to it. the service manager of the dealership mentioned nga to me that i should use velocity. but as it is the car is back with them and won't open until saturday. so hopefully they will be able to pinpoint the problem by then. it's just frustrating because we've only had the car for 2 1/2 months. when we got it it only had 1000+ km on it so it's supposed to be brand new.

A 1996 316i is for sale at the car finder for only 390K!

This has led me to consider disposing my 1997 VTi-S Accord and go for that bimmer.

The difference in power wouldn't really matter to me since I only cruise at around 80kph sa SLEX, and the expected lower fuel expenses (1.6 li bimmer vs. 2.2 li Accord) would somehow offset the maintenance costs.

Smaller space would also not really matter - I usually drive alone except on weekend trips with my wife and daughter.

I'd like to request opinions or insights on why I should or should not proceed with the switch. It's going to be my first euro car if ever.

Costs:
2000 - a/c condenser - around 9k
2001 - cylinder head gasket - mga 2k, headlight module - mga 12k
2003 - radio (ehehe, I got a good excuse to set-up) & alternator - mga 25k 2004 - replace fanbelt pulleys - mga 15k & 1 rear power window motor - mga 14k.
2005 - had to replace a lot of suspension bits - mga 80k, both front power window motors - mga 15k, fuel pump - 18k & ignition module - 12k (all these things lasted 15 yrs, driving almost daily!)
Optima batteries - 8k

Total without radio: +/-210k every 15 yrs or 14k-15k per year + oil/fluids/tune-up/reg. maint. costs of around 15k per year = 30k per year. Wow, mahal pala kay Big Bert's, mga add'l 15k per year din...

Sir corbon, at that price range, maybe you should consider a 92-95 E34 525i (there are some going for 380k!). Gas consumption mo will be about the same as the Accord.

IMHO (no offense to 316 owners out there), rip-off yung 316i cuz it's a lot sloooower than it's Jap 1.6 brethren. Also, interior space in comparison to the Jap compacts is lots smaller (my subjective opinion).

Whichever you choose, go euro! I can assure you that the ride quality is very much worth it and a big improvement over your Accord (I've tried both cars).
