AY+BYD = Electric car dealership
TAIPAN Alfonso ‘AY’ Yuchengco, who has long been associated with Honda cars, plans to team up with the aggressive BYD Auto of China for dealership.
It is not immediately clear whether Mr. AY plans to bring in the cut-price BYD gasoline cars or the much-hyped plug-in hybrid vehicles that BYD has started selling.
In any case, the discussions with the Shenzhen-based car and battery company have apparently reached advanced stage, prompting the Yuchengco holding company, House of Investments, to make a disclosure, without naming the putative foreign partner, to the stock exchange last week.
If the BYD venture pushes through, the Yuchengcos hope to ride on, just like billionaire investor Warren Buffett who acquired a 10-percent stake in BYD, what is considered the automotive wave of the future.
In addition to the planned new car dealership, the House of Investments also said it was expanding into, rather belatedly, the booming motorcycle business under the Honda brand.
The Yuchengcos currently hold the Honda car dealerships in Quezon and Kalookan cities.

USD4000 = P200,000.
Add the cost labor, etc.
And add the cost of importation, marketing, taxes, profit margins...
That should shoot to well beyond P600,000.
----------------------
P200,000 to convert your car to a limited range electric car.
And people complain about the P30K to P50K conversion price of Auto-LPG.
----------------------
P200,000 buys a lot of gasoline.
Assuming a full tank costs P2000 and it's consumed in a week.
That is still enough money for TWO YEARS worth of gasoline.
And that is not yet adding the cost of electricity to charge the batteries yet.
------------------------
I have done a initial project study on converting a standard FWD car to gas/electric hybrid.

But even with a price tag of only P150,000 ... it was going to be a hard sell.Last edited by ghosthunter; January 10th, 2010 at 03:45 PM.
