Is the speedometer working?
Some GM cars have the speedo input to enable the cooling fan. Some, the radiator fans are pulse width modulated.

Any thing else not normal to the operation of the vehicle?
thanks for the response mina_nuka

re: check engine light
no, it wasn't lit. At least not until the fan was directly connected to the battery so it may be driven to wizzard's then back home.

re: vacuum leak
it wasn't checked in the shop (servitek), though I did check the oil cap and dipstick for signs of gasket trouble but they're clean. No vapors coming out either or anything that indicates gases are leaking into the cooling system.

re: speedometer
yes, it's fine at least when i drove it from servitek to wizzard's...already hooked up to battery. I'll drive it around just to check again. is there a way to find out if it's pulse width modulated?

other than the aircon not working again, there was nothing else acting strangely. i suspected a/c compressor issues but wizzard's didn't find anything wrong with it. their mechanic said the ecu/pcm isn't closing the ground. they wanted to remove the computer box and have it "repaired" by "someone in banawe". i'd really like to do my homework first before agreeing to that. by the way i've got the diagrams from the hayne's manual however i must admit i'm a noob with that.

any info would help in solving this "mystery"

nga pala, hammerl suggested checking out the coolant temperature sensor, it's never been replaced ever so i got a new one and will have it installed
