January 23rd, 2010 08:17 PM #1Honda Civic LXi 1996 (stock)
Went to baguio last July 2009 jampacked ang auto ko with 4 passengers and luggage at compartment, nag start magover heat mid way up marcos highway. Nung pauwi din uminit kahit madaling araw kami umalis. pero before that wala naman overheating. Nag change oil lang, nawala yung over heating. Question: sa lumang auto ba regular oil na lang ang dapat bang gamitin? and, may relation ba ang di pag change oil sa overheating. nakakaka 5000k na ako since my last oil change, last week hinataw ko sa skyway 140kmph nagsimula na naman uminit (a little more than 3/4 the gauge) pero pag trafik, bumabalik sa normal.... confusing!!!! di nababawasan ng tubig sa radiator, tumatakbo mga fan, walang tagas water pump. Possible causes? Salamat.

2. with regards to my question sa tranny, if ever automatic tranny lalu na kung internal cooler ang tranny e ipalinis mo radiator at change atf. if manual, subukan ipalinis ang radiator.
3. pwede ring pudpod ang water pump kahit walang leaks gaya ng nabanggit mo.
eto muna ha.

February 7th, 2010 12:48 AM #5hi to all, my first post as a new member here-
Similar po experience with my sentra ss97 AT- revving at speed
history po ng car
2006 - water pump broke running for 3 days w/o water sa radiator _almost_30km rn tinakbo, gamit kasi ng sister hehehe-
nagpalit lng , ok na uli running with normal temp even kahit long distance
Oct 2009 - sister drives from fairview all the way to our house with busted heater hose assembly from engine _ yung hose kinain na rn ng corrossion ng assembly. She drove then shuts down the engine if malapit na mag 3/4 ang temp. Fix the assembly and it's ok again.
Jan 2010 ok naman performance (no overheating)but with some power loss and short shifting na ang transmission, upshift cya agad if kahit na revving hard unlike before
so I adjusted na idling speed , dati naka 700 rpm A/C off, manual says 800
rpm so set to that speed was my first sol'n. Now its temp goes up to above 1/2 if revving then ok na uli pag cruising 80 kph. Seems me tama na head gasket from what the posts about overheating say or somewhere else cooling system. it's ok if set to 700 rpm uli pero mahina pickup compared ng Hindi nagkaproblem. some advice po, top overhaul ? no leaks , me tama konti ang rad cap (even before the problem)pero minimal loss of water if driving
with high temp.

February 7th, 2010 11:50 AM #6I hope head gasket is still ok yet I will resort to top overhaul before getting a cracked aluminum head. maybe sa engine troubleshooting dpat Ito ipost hehehe , dami na rin kalawang cgru ( I was not able to drain coolant from the engine block) nito because last time change coolant April 2009 , 30/70 ang ratio ng rust to water/coolant pipit pati mga radiator hoses me lagitnit na. I noticed also that after a Long drive more than 60 km, I will adjust again idling speed for nag aadjust ata Ecu to lower performance to reduce possible engine failure.

February 13th, 2010 06:56 AM #8by now referred the problem to the mechanic, dami na raw kalawang, he said iflush muna radiator or palinis todo.
OVERHEATING is caused by clogging of the radiator. inefficient na thermal transfer so complete flushing dapat. engine is still filled with rust reflush uli after one week. I'll do it for 4 consecutive weeks using distiller/purified water mix. If problem persists, radiator overhaul, then .. sana ala pa tama head gasket considering the corrosion and overheating.

February 13th, 2010 08:38 AM #10thanks for the advice, distilled water , no coolant, para dissolved lhat ng rust sa engine and radiator , copper tubes naman ata ang radiator so no problem, I worry about sa ibang water fittings sa engine bka me sacrificial anode pa na bibigay (zinc material). This design of the engine I thought it will last as long as properly maintained pero me weak points rn talaga.
the car is 97k odo first owned, rarely used FC is a bit high ,low of 9 km/ltr, extreme traffic 7 km/ltr, nasanay kasi ng 12 km/ltr sa diesel
Done with my change oil at Petron. 4,230 pesos for the 8L fully synthetic 5W-40. They told me that...
