a thermostat prevents coolant inside the engine block, from circulating into the radiator.
as a result, your engine gets up to its optimal working temperature, faster.
while that engine is cool, the computer gives it more fuel, sort of "choked".
as a result, engines running cooler than their optimal working temperature, consume more fuel.

bottomline, a working thermostat helps you save on fuel, and lessens pollution.

sir, kaso sabi dun sa shop e meron leak yung radiator ko, hindi nila ma-compression test. try ko muna fix yung radiator.
worst case na kapag me problema CH.
can you recommend a shop para sa top overhaul. cavite area, pwde na rin d2 sa manila. yung hindi taga masyado. any idea how much? para mapaghandaan na.

Update mga sir.. nagpalit ako ng bagong radiator, same issue pa rin.. after long drive from cavite to manila, puno ang reservoir tank at walang tubig ang radiator. nasa kalahati ang temp. reading. ok ang fans.

positive na problema nga kaya sa CH?

bago din yung rad cap, same sukat dun sa bagong radiator. dalhin ko sa speedyfix bukas para sa compression test.

ung sakin palaging ubos coolant ung reservoir. kaya di ko na linalagyan ngayon. pero di naman nababawasan dun sa radiator. sa reservoir lang nagbabawas.kapapalit ko lang head gasket.

ok nman sir yung rad cap, japan made din same sukat para sa radiator. pero try ko din bumili sa Toyota.

Update sir sa compression test sa speedyfix. readings - 160-150-150-175.. ok nman daw ganun na reading. wala leaks. hindi rin nila masabi kung ano problema base dun sa compression test. ano pa kaya kelangan test para ma-pin point ang cause ng overflowing coolant sa reservoir at dry ang radiator.

talked to the owner of speedyfix and he suggest na complete overhaul talaga kse dun malaman kung meron crack ang head, warped and cylinder or just simple palit lang ng gasket at oil seals. pero not a guarantee na yun nga ang culprit. big amount of money rin kaya hindi ako maka-decide kung ipa-overhaul ko.

Sir yung upper at lower hose maganda pa nman ang pagka-rubber. not so sure sa mga clamps at clips nya kse ilang beses na inalis yung radiator, pero lagi ko rin check wala nman tagas or traces ng coolant.

a faulty rad cap could be the culprit. kahit bago pero kung wala naman sa specs,,,wala din imo.
though i think not necessarily complete overhaul agad iyan. pero kailangan nang mabuksan ang cylinder head then see kung warped whatsoever then start there.
extreme overheat kasi iyan kaya most likely may tama iyan sa loob.

Is your new radiator the OEM or a replacement brand? It could also be that your water pump is leaking but not overt and leak dries up immediately with the warm engine. You mentioned the first time that your car overheated and it died along the way. this is not a good sign and could probably mean a warped or cracked cylinder head. check your dipstick if your engine oil is "milky" in character. Oh, in most toyota vehicles that i've seen and owned, i never saw a radiator cap with a 1.1 rating...

Did anybody in any of the shops you mentioned perform pressure test on the rad cap and the cooling system? There had been too many v Hunches and your car is still overheating. Do a proper diagnosis first

Sir replacement brand yung radiator, bagong palit ang water pump at thermostat. walang makita na leak anywhere sa mga hoses, etc. walang signs ng kahit ano sa dipstick, takip ng engine oil, walang any sign of water or oil sa spark plug sockets. rad cap bago rin. Pinalit ko sa orig rad cap ng vios then long drive, same issue pa rin.. baka dun na ako sa top overhaul pagnagkaron ng budget. salamat mga sirs..

aba high pressure na nga siguro yan.tanggalin mo nga ung rad cap mo saka mo paanadarin kapag may bula bula na lumabas sa radiator mo malamang mag pa top overhaul kana..kung rad cap problem mo

kasi nun one time sinabihan ako ng tao sa parts store nun bumibili ako ng langis na hindi ko kailangan ng multigrade oil dahil "napakainit dito sa Pinas"
