1. Unless your car is aircooled like old school VW's or Porsches, you will need coolant to increase the boiling point and have a higher margin of safety.
2. Find a new mechanic.
3. He probably said that so your car will not last as long and you will take it to him.
That's why these forums exist so people will know better and not just rely blindly on others' advice, mechanic man or hindi. Mechanic ba talaga (with certification, license, etc) or no real way to authenticate him?

Thanks for the reply.
Sya yung nagpalit ng timing belt ko a year ago.
Bakit ganun yun nangyari?
use coolant for its anti rust properties. not for the cooler engine temps.
open up the civic and the lancer and i'm pretty sure which one will have cleaner water passages.
water: heat transfer capability means more heat can be absorbed by the water away from the engine but water has a less boiling point (100 deg C) compared to coolant. so if na-reach na ng tubig ung boiling point nya especially in hot and long driving, there's a lot of steam generation trying to escape out of the radiator (overheat)..
coolant naman, although less ang heat transfer capability nya, they have high boiling point naman (130 deg C). may anti-rust and lubricating property pa..
Antirust?
Totoo ba pwede wiper washer fluid dito? Is it economical?
Where in Manila can people buy methanol in bulk for this application?
+1
The Lancer's water pump failure could be due to any number of things not related to the use or non-use of coolant.
I'm really pissed with one of our former drivers... he made it a habit of topping off the Crosswind with tap water. Now we have a problem!
After 10,000 kms of use with tap water, the coolant bottle is full of rust and the radiator looks like it's full of mud... and it's losing water every few hundred kilometers... I'm thinking quite a few of the internal water passages are clogged by now.
-----
While you can run a car for quite a long while on water only, it's a huge compromise. The Civic might be able to get away with it, due to its well designed water passages and an engine that doesn't need as much cooling as other 1.6s and which can survive overheating better than most... (I'm still amazed by the tiny radiator in that thing) ...but it's not going to be a very happy engine by the time you need to overhaul it.
medyo mahaba but it should answer a lot of questions.

Ilan kms or months dapat palitan ang coolant?
Kasi sa tubig nagbabawas after 2 weeks.
usually ilan years bago ma-overhaul radiator?
Thanks
kung nagbabawas radiator mo with water, it will act the same with coolant.
normally between 20-40k kms for older cars but most new cars have extended drain intervals now for the new coolant.
*everester62: Use the coolant the casa tells you to... like speedyfix says, masama ang paghalo ng coolant... that's why they add coloring, to warn you not to mix them.
radiator looks like it's full of mud... and it's losing water every few hundred kilometers
based on this i think there is an engine problem, wherein oil mixed with water in the radiator? when u rev it up, there is like pockets of air coming out your radiator? it easily overheats? whats the color of the emissions? fix ur engine as it is failing... needs some overhaul if not fixed early
*suv: normal yung white smoke pag gabi... that's from the added water vapor in the air going through the engine and in the exhaust.
Without seeing your car, it'll be hard to diagnose... best to bring it to a good mechanic to have everything checked... and then, after that... bring it to another one to confirm... dalhin mo na kay bro. speedyfix... hehehe...
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
PM mo si speedyfix to ask for his address.
It's a fair bet you have no gasket problems... likely you have issues with your radiator and/or hoses. If your hoses are a bit old, best bet is to replace them all anyway.
Mahirap talaga ang cooling problem... one thing affects another, which affects another... at one point it took me over a month to diagnose and fix all the cooling problems on my 626 (repaired radiator, replaced hoses, replaced water pump, replaced auxfan... etcetera).
