Saw 98 S40s at around 240k at online classifieds. I like the S40 especially it's livery in the BTCC Touring Car championships back then.

Not the most fuel-efficient ones at all, could hardly get more than 10kmpl in highway, but extremely reliable. Their engine usually don't have major issues, but the best one, and the easiest to find replacement parts, is the 2.5L turbodiesel (sourced by Volkswagen/Audi). Transmissions are not a problem too, any mechanic able to mess with Ford transmissions can take care of them. If you're looking for ease of maintenance, the AWD versions are not so great due to the added complexity and decreasement on fuel-efficiency. A/C is not problematic, when properly mantained it can freeze the hell.

I'm planning to get XC60 year 2009 from a dealer friend. Is this a good buy? First time for Volvo here. Any feedback from XC60 owners here? Are the parts available? What about maintenance cost. It's casa maintained daw - around 30k mileage.

    Will appreciate any feedback.

Hi, I'm also in a similar situation as dave_ph2000. My company is bidding out the cars of the top execs and one is a 2010 xc60. Regular casa maintenance but the a/c is not cold na. The fleet management think the compressor needs to be replaced. It's already 103th km run, and selling for 550th. I want to experience a European car for a low price. Is this a car worth buying? Should the price be lower? Since I cannot bring the car out (per policy), what else should I look for in this car? It's the D5 a/t variant. Thanks!

    How's the quality of 8-10 year old Volvos now? ... Specifically a 2011 S60 or XC60 ...

Earlier S60's (and S40's) got sticky button issues after a few years. Sadly, there's just nothing really special about Volvo's.

And from personal experience (including friends), it's really troublesome to resell them later on.

Well they are well known for being build like tanks , I've seen a couple of Volvos crash before and the driver just came out untouched. Pretty impressing to be honest.

It’s the local aftermarket support which is suspect for Volvos out here. A neighbor who has a number of Volvo sedans and wagons has his rides serviced at home by Volvo mechanics who do house calls. The mechanics said owners shy away from the cost offered by the local dealership so they make a living supporting owners on their own.
