may napuntahan akong emission testing center dati, pag bagsak ka sa test, bebentahan ka ng air filter, meron kasi silang auto supply. After mapalitan ng filter, pasado ka na sa re-test.

For one, the software checks if the steering wheel is moving. Another would be the unusual stability / stillness of the vehicle.

It's simple and quite clever, actually. The EPA has a published methodology on how vehicles are tested (ie. steering wheel centered, test at certain RPM/speed, while standing still on a dyno, among others). The VW vehicles with the affected ECM detects this test criteria and will then run the program that will make the engine produce less emissions. But once on the road, the test criteria will no longer be met so the ECM runs their default program that will reduce the effects of the emissions system to presumably increase performance and fuel economy, at the expense of more pollution being spewed out.

Here's an excerpt from the official Notice of Violation (NOV) document found here: http://www3.epa.gov/otaq/cert/docume...a-09-18-15.pdf

Laki ng multa! Mas mahal pa ata sa US retail value ng Golf, Jetta, at Passat with the 2.0L TDI engine.
Tayo kasi Euro 4 palang. Standards sa US ay Euro 6 na ata. Kaya di na kailangan ng cheat software. But if I read correctly since 2009 pa nila ginagawa kaya malamang merong software yun mga benta dito.

In an article, forgot what, the EPA has been noticing that their car emissions are different on the road. The EPA questioned the CEO, who admitted to the software. VW is now in the process of hunting down the brains behind it.

We have the rule of law. Sinisiraan lang nila ako kasi tatakbo ako sa susunod na eleksyon.

They are. Compared to this that almost everyone in the US drives.

I'm sure a 60 mpg TDi golf is more environmentally friendly than a 15 mpg SUVs and trucks. Heck my friend's V10 diesel excursion gets 9 mpg. I even applaud them for doing that at the expense of a small amounts of carbon soot, and in return you get better fuel consumption and more power.

I think the real issue here is that vw blatantly lied and forged about it. That's what gets most americans, being dishonest.

    you're probably right.
the aircooled VW's carburator is very easy to adjust.
we used to have quite a collection of main jets. very easy..

Agree.

Nox is a silent killer(in US).

Here in ph, what is visible is essential. The govt wont even care if the working population die sniffing pollutants because the money that sustains the govt comes from abroad.

in the olden days of the air-cooled VW, VW advertised a conservative km/li figure. users routinely reported higher figures.... even competed amongst themselves for better figures.
    times have changed..

Because pollution control have changed. Those added instruments takes a toll on instrumentation cost, longevity ,vehicle maintenance.

I hate the sound of those old beetle and sakbayans, its not even equipped with ac and the wheel geometry isnt safe.
