If you hated how it sounded, you'd probably hate how it drove. Growing up driving Japanese, I had a hard time with the pedal set-up & operating the gears takes a little getting used to. The car I drove had no insulation & aircon. But inspire of these, I still take second looks at old German Beetles. The Brazil version were more refined.
My father'a first car was a 1200 VW beetle but he disposed it after a while because of too many horror stories about catching fire as the battery is under the back seat and in danger of getting grounded with the seat springs.
If i remember correctly, the bat is up front nga ba or is it the sakbayan. Pedal cables run from the front to the rear, engine is hot smells like burning insulation sometimes fire could be seen from the tailpipe bec of short manifold.. Now Audi admits to having then same software in their diesel cars.

The heads of R & D of VW, AUDI & PORCHE were made to resign. The maker of the software, BOSCH intended the software for research only & warned them about it's use years ago. Mukhang makakabili na ako ng tig isang VW, Audi at Porche
but i have to hand it to the designers.. it's something i would have imagined only in the movies...
when i was in college, i used to date a girl driving a beetle. once she wanted me to drive it - potek surrender ako

They are fighting back. No downpayment. No interest. Easy lay away plan.
Of course, taga ang presyo in the first place. hehehe.

One Man Established the Culture That Led to VW's Emissions Scandal
- Bob Lutz Nov. 4, 2015
Ferdinand Piech, the immensely powerful former chief of Volkswagen's supervisory board, is more than likely the root cause of the VW diesel-emissions scandal. Whether he specifically asked for, tacitly approved, or was even aware of the company's use of software to deliberately fudge EPA emissions testing is immaterial. It's what I call a reign of terror and a culture where performance was driven by fear and intimidation. He just says, "You will sell diesels in the U.S., and you will not fail. Do it, or I'll find somebody who will." The guy was absolutely brutal. That management style gets short-term results, but it's a culture that's extremely dangerous. Look at dictators. Dictators invariably wind up destroying the very countries they thought their omniscience and omnipotence would make great. It's fast and it's efficient, but at huge risk.
Americans vs Germans. U.S. economy is so bad that they need to destroy vw's reputation. Japanese cars will win in this scenario. Lots of comments to laugh off here.
People never realized that no Japanese diesels can pass the united States emissions even with any software installed.
The fortuner, Montero, isuzu diesels and even Ford ranger diesels sold in the Philippines will never pass u.s. emissions even with a dozen of softwares
Di ko ma gets, why do they deliberately have to destroy VW's reputation? You mean the US is biased? Di na naman WW2 & Germany is a US Allie. It's obvious that VW cheated & they admitted it. Besides, they have the facts to prove it. Even BOSCH admitted that the software used was for experimental purposes only. The US EPA was on to them for quite some time already & since VW did not want to clean up their act, that was when the US made it public.
U.S. economy is falling into the red line. GM and Ford availed of rescue package a few years ago. VW group is approaching number 1 in the car market. But Detroit is going bankrupt. So far, in terms of FC... German cars are more honest to consumers. Ford cars are the worst. Faulty airbags, sudden accelerations and even switches that caused fires have killed more motorist than vw scandal. Ever wonder why we fil generally don't buy ford or gm vehicles? They are gas guzzlers esp the ones made in America. Think that these gas guzzlers are better for the environment? They release a lot of unburned gas into the environment and Wasted our money.
I wonder if VW as a brand will ever recover from their shenanigan.
