This is the 2nd time na about power outage. If this keeps happening many international flights may remove their stop here in PH because of incompetence.

the "knowledgeable person" was hinting at previous big mis-events, not only at naia, but elsewhere local, that were traceable daw to ill-activity...
he did not mention specific names, however.

I'm interested to find out what kind of UPS they were using. For something that is classified as critical infrastructure, I'm sure they're the online double-conversion types. But I can't understand how a failed fan/blower took down everything. These UPSs have bypass modes.... which should address any internal faults that may have developed within the UPS.



Getting 380V instead of 220-240V is a wiring and/or possibly a configuration issue, not a power surge. Most large datacenter UPSs are 3-phase. So it would seem that while they were panic-stricken trying to put everything back online, they powered the 220-240V equipment directly from 380V, which is one of the standard Line-to-Line voltage of a 220V/380V 3-phase source. You get 220V from Line-to-Neutral, in this case.

I think they're playing the blame game to minimize their own failures, pointing a finger at Meralco for the "power surge". If that were actually the case, it would've affected everyone in the neighborhood, not just CAAP.

Friend ko dapat pauwi ng Jan 1 from Korea, 2 families sila with kids. Hindi pa nakakauwi.

At first they received an email from PAL with their rebooked flight which was supposed to be departing Seoul last night. When they were checking in na, wala daw sa list ang group nila. Kahit pinakita email, wala daw magagawa yung checkin counter since wala sila sa list.

They are now rebooked to Jan 5.

They tried to book flights with other airlines, pero wala talaga availability until Jan 6. The families even split up their bookings para mas may chance sana.

It's just semantics. UPSs are considered backup power and depending on the size relative to the load it's powering, can provide anywhere from a few minutes to several hours of battery backup runtime. But since UPS + batteries are expensive to procure and maintain, they keep the runtime down to a reasonable duration until either the equipment can be safely shutdown or a backup generator can take over.

In the original article, it mentioned that they do have gensets on standby that can power the system 24x7. It's not clear to me what the sequence of events are and the specific UPS failure modes so I can't say how or why it wasn't used.

Na mention siya doc sa interview ni ted failon at later by cheryl cosim kay bautista, thats the caused of the over voltage thats why they had to shutdown the system. Maraming reason why the UPS will fail but all these reasons will not just happen without warning. Incompetence parin ang caused nyan at ang to blame ay si UPS who cant defend itself na may tangang technician na nag plug sa No AVR protection socket ng UPS.

Wag na ninyong haluan ng politics yang simpleng kaso ng incomptence. Si Bautista mismo nagsabi na may redundant system ang CAAP , but can only handle less than 40 flights per day(?) why was it not used? he didnt explain. Most likely yung mga naka duty hindi sanay gumamit ng manual puro automatic lang ang alam.

I would argue that the equipment themselves did not fail. There was no evidence that the apparent age of the equipment contributed to the failure.

It's the UPSs that failed.

However, for something that is this critical, they need to have a disaster recovery site to mitigate exactly these types of failure modes.

Bukod sa UPS dapat me backup system sila lalo na importante yung equipment. Me budget naman kaso sa iba ata ginamit. [emoji16]
