emergency generators are suppose to run every week and put on line once a month. i worked at the heart center many many years ago (late 80's) and this was the standard practice even then. to me this means they are not doing their weekly test run and monthly "on load" test of their generators, both to test the generators, the synchronizing system and the switch gears. and 5 hours! nah, somebody is lying there somewhere. i think they were either out of diesel or the people in-charge did not know what to do.

also, sabi ng meralco na-restor ang power from the substation after 1 minute. how hard is it to throw a transfer switch? improperly maintained or they do not know.

"I serve at the pleasure of PNoy" onga naman ano ang paki ni Abaya sating mga taxpayer?

Power generation is a critical element of an airport operation!
Kung 9/10 na gen-sets ang pwede bakit inabot ng 5 hrs ang outage. Something is not right definitely sa kanyang power generation system and besides bakit wala bang black start gen-sets in case the standby units don't kicks in?

i agree, we do this at BPO's to ensure generators will kick-in in an event of an power outage, foreign clients just won't accept the fact that most calls gets disconnected when the city power dies...

they ran out of diesel thats the most logical thing... the airport is full of vehicles with batteries they can collect to start-up the generators, but the main fault is not practicing proper genset maintenance, ensuring it will work when needed...

a lot of things can happen when the power is out, either you can bring in things (or out) in the darkness of the night

clearly, the person in charge of maintaining the genset in tiptop shape, ready to generate at a flick of a switch, was not doing his job. this includes training of personnel to do the right thing in the event of an outage.
either that, or administration has not approved funding for fuel and fresh battery, and other maintenance nicknacks..
maintenance can not do its job if administration refuses to fund them.
let's sit back and watch the finger-pointing game...

what i don't believe is the lack of a backup power source. airport yan eh. the backup source should ensure that take-offs, landings and loading and unloading of passengers are not affected.

dapat dyan tinawag na lang si john mcclaine para makita ang reason.

    smell something fishy...

Meralco: No scheduled power outage | Headlines, News, The Philippine Star | philstar.com

The five-hour power outage at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 (NAIA-3) on Saturday night was not caused by a technical glitch at the airport substation of the Manila Electric Co., Meralco spokesman Joe Zaldarriaga said yesterday.

He explained that Meralco personnel inspected the site and found no problem with the substation circuits, leading them to conclude that the problem lies with the NAIA and its system.

“Our team’s inspection revealed that Meralco has nothing to do with the power outage at the NAIA Terminal 3 for five hours,” Zaldarriaga said.

The Meralco inspection team, he said, arrived at the NAIA substation at around 1 a.m. yesterday to conduct inspection and repairs on wirings that could have caused the power outage but found nothing wrong with the facility.

He also said that establishments near the terminal did not have the same problem, suggesting that the fault lies with the NAIA.

Yes bro.,- there is an exponentially increasing intensity of disenchantment vs. those running the show here...

Maging hands-on naman kayo mga namumuno rito! Get your assess off your seats and stop scratching your b*lls, while counting your doughs...

Don't tell us the sh!tty excuse, that sh!t happens and this is just less than 1% of the times.. That it is just "inconvenience"... Sobra-sobra nang kahihiyan sa bansa natin ito... At sobra-sobra na ring pahirap sa mga tao natin ito!!!

It is virtually our only International Gateway... Major airlines are using the terminal... Our people and our guests are using this terminal....

It should be up 100%! That is why backups have to be "redundant" and real time!....

Ano ba naman kayo???? Management101 iyan!!!
