    I've only driven automatic transmission cars. I'm about to buy my first manual trans car. I'm new in the country and I don't want to call up anyone to drive the car out of the dealer for me.

    Any tips for me on how to drive a manual? Technically, I know how to do it because I've played videogames The basics would be, press the clutch and then move the stick.

    Since there is no "park" gear unlike the ones in automatic, how do you park the car? Do I put it in neutral and lift the rear brake? Or leave it in first geat and lift the rear brake?

    Another tip someone gave me is to press the brake before starting the engine. Keep the brakes pressed while you switch from neutral to first.

    I'll probably get the hang of it.

    Driving a Manual Transmission would change your orientation if your used in driving an A/T. since your "left foot & your right hand" would be put to work once again.

    is it like when starting the engine, or coming from a standstill? in the former, there's no need. just make sure its in neutral & the parking brake is engaged. while on the latter, yup he's right..its a technique to prevent the car from "backing-up"

    when running, don't rest ur foot on the clutch pedal coz this will cause premature wear on ur clutch disc

    when parking the car just put it neutral and engage the parking brake. i don't recommend putting it in first gear , this a habit of some drivers but sometimes when they start the car they forget that the gear is in 1st, what happens is it jerks forward and they bump the car or the wall in front.

    when shifting, press the clutch all the way down to prevent grinding the gears.

    tryo to keep a light foot on the gas pedal since engine response is much quicker for a manual vs. automatic tranny.

    when parking your car in an inclined position, you may place the stick shift on 1st gear as a precaution should your handbrake fail.

    don't forget to dip the clutch when coming to a stop or else the engine will stall! using the parking brake may help immensely when you're stopped on an incline (a potentially extremely stressful experience).

    good luck, there's really no other way to learn driving a manny tranny than going out and practicing and practicing.

    isa ko din problem to, newbie pa lang kasi, pag naabutan ako naka full stop sa inclined/uphill na lugar, grabe pinag papawisan na ako sa kaba at nanginginig pa takot na takot ako na mapaatras, manual tranny kasi oto ko, kaya ayun pag umaandar na, todo rev ako na akala mo kakarera hahaha, worst case is namamatayan ng makina, effective ba ang handbreak pagka naabutan ng ganun? instead na apak sa break, yung mga bus pa naman grabe kung tumutok eh, na dapat wag ako mapapaatras kung blagag!! bangga

    yes most effective way to avoid backing up on uphill is to use hand break even cab drivers to that, kapag feel mong ok na yung timpla ng engine mo then let go of the hard break.

    ako sa tagal ko nang nagmamaneho ugali ko na talga mga 6meters before stopping neutral agad ako..then as much as possible d ko pinapaabot ng 2.5k or 3k yung tachometer ko unless racing racing ang feeling ko para magovertake.

    technique for starters:
    1. start your call
    2. full clutch then 1st gear
    3. konting-konting apak ng gas then steady lang wag nang ibaon pa.
    4. slowly release the clutch.

    ganyang lang pandaya kapag naguumpisa ka plang then kapag kabisabo mo nang magtimpla, easy easy nalang yan. then parang bump car nalang ang A/T.hehehe

    sir dagdagan ko lang. basta wag ka kabahan pag umatras ng konti ung kotse after release ng brake. pag kumagat na ung clutch mo aabante ka na ulit.

    very effective ang handbreak technique sa mga newbie drivers sa incline para hindi masyado masunog ang clutch, kung may confidence ka na then pwede ka na magpractice ng pag timpla. otherwise maghandbrake method muna para hindi umatras :-)

    natry ko na mag park sir sa megamall, yung sa paikot na dadaanan at paakyat pa, haay grabe talaga yon, ang lamig ng pawis ko at buti naiakyat ko naman ng maluwalhati.

    try niyo sir sa shang at cgurado ko sa inyo pagpapawisan kayo ng husto :-) kapag peak hours naman malamang parang naligo na kyo. hehe! ewan ko ba kung sino nag design ng parking diyan.

    i do the same method, handbrake when stopped on inclines and even on flat grounds para no chance na maka-atras ako ng nasa likod ko. Yun nga lang, i think clutch driver din yata ako, medyo babad sa clutch lalo pag trapik and minsan while cruising.. I have to learn to lessen the clutch's use pa.

    If you know how to drive a manual vehicle, mabilis na lang ang automatic? but not the other way around?

    walang problema yun sir. gagamitin mo lang naman ang handbreak kapag nakahinto :-)

    shifting from MT to AT is a no-brainer. nung nakahawak ako ng AT ayaw ko na gamitin yung MT namin. hehe

    kung sa inclined kayo tapos naka hinto, try nyo muna mag shift tapos dahan dahan release ng gas pero syempre tyempuhan nyo yung handbrake nyo kapag naramdaman nyo na nakaengaged na engine nyo release na handbrake then tuloy tuloy na gas nyo, practice practice makukuha nyo sya
