i read before, that the rod that slots in place when AT is put to P, can be easily damaged by a light bump in traffic.
that is one reason why some writers recommend the handbrake over P, while in traffic.

    True.

The "rod" is a hook shaped piece of metal called the parking pawl.

    yespo.
we appear to be consulting the same google.

when i read up on the definition, the definition used more new and exotic words that i knew nothing about.
i did not google these new words anymore, as it might generate even more new and strange words.
    heh heh.

mejo mahaba na yung thread, not sure if may nag ask na neto:

    1. At what speed normally you shift from D to 2 or 1 if you are approaching an uphill? is there a certain speed advisable to do this? may nkapagsabi sakin wag ka bigla mag shift from D to 2 kapag mabilis pa takbo mo. Pero yung from 1 to 2 to D is pede daw mag shift habang moving yung sasakyan.

Also, if you are on steep gradient and let say you are at 2, do you normally floor just to catch up with speed?

Ano pa technique nyo kapag uphill yung byahe nyo, thanks.

I never needed 2 or 1. I once used 2 though when the car was fully loaded then wala bwelo sa incline sa baguio dahil ayoko mag up shift agad ang gear.

About changing gear while on the move? Iwasan lang step ang gas while you shift, IMO.

try to modulate the pedal. flooring is not always necessary.

Btw corolla 93 big body matic user.

    Salamat sa mga idea nyo.[emoji8]

Make use of the full range of movement of your accelerator pedal, just like your brakes. U might find it enjoyable. Ü

Mine is still old school 4AT.

I would initially switch off O/D since you won't be needing the 4th gear for most of the uphill drive like in Baguio.

Upon reaching certain spots where the road would get steeper, like approaching the Lion's head, I do shift to 2.

You’ll know when there’s a need to use other gear settings.... Downhill engine braking, or if the A/T is oscillating between two gears, etc.

Changing gear/modes helps by keeping the driving experience more engaging, without resorting to driving an M/T.
