When the handbrake (manual or electronic) is engaged, the car will not move forward or backward. However if the manual handbrake was engaged only slightly (first click on pull) and you floor the gas pedal, the vehicle will surge forward/backward and you're in for big trouble already.

You need to enroll sa driving school para may formal teaching.

Aside sa driving para familiarize ka din sa rules / signs / markings

Illogical kasi yung tanong, bakit mo i-engage ang handbrake and move the car at the same time?

To answer if sagad handbrake hindi yan aandar.

Pero if aapak ka sa accelerator, chances are it will move pa din.

You drive naman pala, minor adjustment na lang yan or totally wala since accelerator and brake lang aapakan mo.

    Basically

From Park to reverse/drive apak muna sa brake

    Never coast on neutral.

Pag saglit na stop stay on drive while apak sa brake

Pag long stop you can neutral then apak sa brakes / engage handbrake

Avoid putting it on P unless you are about to park na talaga.

hi, i just got a Fortuner Dsl A/T after driving a Revo Gas M/T for at least 18 years.

so, when i come to a stoplight and it's more than a minute, i put it in N and handbrake. or, leave it in D, and use the handbrake.

which is a better or acceptable practice?

i'm a bit skeptical bout the lifespan of A/T and the cost to repair if there's an issue na.

    thanks!

Ako nilalagay ko sa N pag masyado matagal stop then apply hand brake.. mangangawet ka pag matagal naka diin sa preno.. dont put it to P kasi baka malagay mo sa reverse pag biglang abante..

Totally agree, i think best practice is N+hand(electronic)brake for long stops and D+footbrake for stop and go traffic.
P for parking as the name implies

May naglalagay pa ba sa P during traffic? I don't think it's a smart thing to do.

I also do the same thing. I was asvised by our mechanic that for less tear and wear in the transmission better to put the gear in N while stuck in a traffic or red light. I also have read an article in topgear that says so.

if your seat is too far back, there isn't much leverage to step on the brake pedal. hence "nangangawet"

slide forward the seat so stepping on the brakes is natural.

I don't think the reason is baka malagay mo sa reverse, kase daanan mo pa rin naman R then N bago D. The plain reason why you should not put it to P during traffic is you are not actually really parking?
