I saw one thread discussing RON (Researched Octane Number). I checked the RON manual and it stats that for our VVTi Fortuner (2TR-FE), the minimum RON is 91. Does this mean we can use unleaded gasoline for our VVTi ride? For Shell Unleaded, it has a minimum Octane rating of 93. I read from that thread that using higher Octane rating has no noticeable benefit for our engines. Unless you believe in what the gas companies say that, like for V-Power of Shell, it cleans your engine better than the regular octane gas.

Considering the prices of gasoline is skyrocketing, I am thinking of downgrading my gas from V-Power to just unleaded as long as this is acceptable and does not damage my engine.

Any comments from the experts there? Thanks.

Minimum yung 91, ano yung recommended?

Hi everyone! Newbie here... Anyway, we have a Black 2.5D4D Fortuner ZBU-**6 almost 14,000 km mileage. Fuel comsumption city driving around 8.4-8.5 km/l, highway driving 13-15 km/l. We achieved 175 km/h on NLEx last december when we took it to baguio. After mapalitan di na bumalik hard starting. Yung talbog hindi na masyadong matagtag after ma-break in na fully loaded yung kotse.

The manual does not mention the recommended RON, just the minimum.

I have not tried other fuels aside from V-Power on my Fortuner so I don't have any basis for comparison.

Although in my other car, I tried both and can't tell the difference. I only registered 9K for one year and this includes several out of town trips including Baguio. In my other car, I average 15K a year but then I have more than 1 car now kaya distributed ang gamit ko between the cars.
