    jean,

ABS engages only during hardbraking and when loss of traction is detected. Otherwise, hard braking from high speeds alone will not engage it.

yup, when you slam on the brake pedal real hard, there will be instances when loss of traction will result due to the sudden locking of the wheels and when this is just about to happen, the ABS kicks-in by repeatedly dis-engaging/engaging the brakes insanely fast, thus allowing you to steer the vehicle in the direction you desire.

under normal circumstances however and even during high speeds, the ABS is not activated when you don't slam the brake pedals hard enough & when the ABS system didn't detect loss of traction/locking wheels, thus only the regular brake system of the vehicle is being engaged.

Thanks Otep and slamtaz.

Its the ABS brake, I experience that on my CRV when suddenly a bike just crossed my path, I was doing 60. I slammed the brake and the brake pedal suddenly vibrate.

felt the same ABS vibration on both the fortuner and the sorrento. maybe your sorrento jean is exceptional have your brakes checked bka hindi gumagana yung abs. or maybe your braking wasnt that hard, kaya hindi nag-activate yung abs. just a thought.

    Sir,
Looks like your ABS is working. I have 2 cars with ABS (Pajero and Fortuner 4x2 DSL) ganon rin ang mangyayari pag nagsudden hard brake ka.

Dec23 bagong kuha ko yong Fortuner ko from the dealer at umaambon pa noon and I was driving at around 70-80KPH nang may biglang tumawid na matandang babae. I braked really hard and I felt the pedal pulsating. The nice thing about ABS was that I was still able to steer the vehicle away from the obstruction. Thanks God for ABS, kung wala yon baka na hit ko na yong matandang babae. Kinabukasan din nag-pa blessing ako sa sasakyan.

toadstool, thanks sa suggestion mo. I'll have it checked by Wheels pag paservice ko this week. But tanong ko lang, di ba walang ABS yong local Sorento?

Yes... Thank God indeed for ABS! It can slightly lengthen your braking distance, but it helps you steer to avoid the obstruction in front of you...
