ours was factory, 'way back in 2005, and replaced only last year, after the 140K odometer reading...
Yes thats why I said maybe they just want to get more money from me. I replaced my upper ball joint last 2021 and was surprised that it needed replacement right away for just 2 yrs of use. I bought the 555 brand ball joint before.

If hindi ma DIY, Shell station is a really big help, big plus if may experienced mechanic sila sa station na makatingin.
Since ma lift up talaga sasakyan, maaalog mo by yourself the part that the first shop recommended to replace.

Yes. Performance wise, sobrang laking difference. Mas responsive ang engine. So far mukhang tipid pa sa krudo. From 7.6kmli ngayon nasa 8.9km/li (basing on car's onboard km/li; full tank method is still on-going). Anything above 8km/li sa makati traffic is good for me.

So far so good naman. Di naman mabaho, maitim o masakit sa mata ang usok

Ang nakita ko lang na possible downside mukhang bibilis ako makaupod ng preno... Kapag binitawan yung preno umaandar agad to 10-15km/li tapos. Umaakyat din ng kusa sa parking ramp ng mall without stepping on gas.

May nakapag review long term na ba nitong remap if walang major issues after 5 yrs from remap?
For everyone's info and peace of mind na rin sana.
Medyo tempting yung result, especially dun sa FC.

Anyone who have had to replace their alternator pulley? Is it worth getting genuine Toyota (4k+) or are there decent alternatives?

KD engine. It's not a simple bearing, it's a one-way clutch. Problem on mine is that the clutch is already slipping and making screeching noises. Worst of all, it's barely charging the battery so it's not something that can be ignored.

Had to limp it home the other night, keeping an eye on the battery voltage. On a normal drive, the voltmeter shows ~13.5V but the other night, it was under 11.3V with headlights on and A/C (switching it on and off as needed). Buti skyway so nakauwi ako kagad. Charged the battery immediately so it doesn't go bad.

Akalain mo, driving a Diesel vehicle gave me range anxiety because if for whatever reason the battery dies, all those computer and electronics controlling the engine dies with it.... Diesel or not.

I'd probably just compare prices of a surplus alternator vs. part and labor for the repair.

Baka better and cheaper to get a surplus. May 'warranty' pa.

I'd rather keep my alternator and just replace the defective pulley. At least it's a known quantity.

So back to my original question:

I can get a pulley that is 1/4 to 1/3 the cost of a genuine one. Has anyone tried it? Did it last as long as the genuine one?

when mine (D4d) malfunctioned, resulting in dead battery syndrome, i drove-nursed it to the banawe boys in banawe QC, where they replaced just the bearing.
actually, i do not know exactly what it is that they replaced, but i am sure it is not the alternator. something sa harap lang. sandali lang. i vaguely remember, it is the bearing...
i am also sure it is not expensive, as i would have remembered it if it were.
and after more than a year, ok pa siya.

it would appear, weakness ni innova yang alternator.
thru the years, i have heard of several complaints regarding precisely that issue.
pity the poor owner, when he is (mis-)informed, that the entire alternator has to be replaced.

Only the pulley needs to be replaced... it's literally just bolted on. It's a one-piece capsule (bearing with one-way clutch in the pulley) so you can't service it and can only be replaced as an assembly.

    that's probably what they replaced.
    these mechanics are simple-minded folks.
they may call it a bearing, when in truth, it's the bearing-pulley assembly.
at any rate, it wasn't expensive, and was readily available.

Mine was not toyota, I replaced the alternator bearing since siya yung cause daw sa ingay from cold start.
It was not genuine one, it is still working for 2 yrs naman.
Sabi nila, consumable daw talaga tong bearing and eto ang always na bumigay first than the main part (alternator).
Mga P500 lang gastos ko ng pulley na yon.
