October 10th, 2010 01:08 AM #1431Hello! I'm thinking of getting an 2010 Altis 1.6 G a/T. --- someone mentioned that the engine of this particularyear (3ZZ FE) is prone to engine oil sludge (http://tsikot.yehey.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68215) -- i would like to ask for the advice of those who have this particular model? As much as I'd like to get the latest 2011 Altis whose engine remedies this problem, it's out of my budget... so I'm now thinking between this or a Vios. If the 2010 ALtis will give me tons of problems/high maintenance, i'll have to give more consideration to the new Vios. Any input would be great, thanks!

Don't worry, the sludge problem is preventable if you carefully stick to the maintenance schedule. Your car will be fine; just make sure to have your oil (whether mineral or synthetic) and oil filter changed every 5,000 kms (or as the owner's manual states it, follow the PMS schedule for "extreme driving conditions"). By doing this, your engine remains as clean as possible, thereby reducing the possibility of sludging.

well... we really wouldn't know if this will be true, not in the next three or so years. who knows, this 1.6dual vvti might be more sludge prone. only time will tell.
change oil and filter every 5k kms and you'll be sludge free. sa casa as much as possible.

I found where the rattling sound is coming from. It's from the brake pedal itself. Any same experience out there? I don't know what the casa will do if I bring it to them.

Hi bro, I also have this problem. may geiger-counter-like rattling sound every time I press and release the brake pedal, pati pag nagme-menor. hindi gaanong dinig sa araw pag maingay sa labas pero medyo turn off sa gabi, at pag tahimik. hindi ko pa napakita to sa kasa, medyo busy kasi, so keep us posted if ever madala mo sa kasa tong problem and kung anu-ano ang mga ginawa nila. sumakit na katawan ko kaka-suot sa ilalim ng dash together with my flashlight and have been stuffing sheets of foam underneath but no avail hehehe.

Whew same here bro!! Sakit sa katawan kakasuot sa ilalim! And yah, it occurs every time i release the brake. Also exactly the same with the geiger counter sound. At least now I know my car is not the only which has that irritating noise! Alright, vacation na, I can focus on it next week, humanda casa sa kakulitan ko.
btw, saang casa ka bro? what if we go together sometime if you're free, para maniwala silang meron ngang rattle. Lagi kasi nila sinasabing wala kahit meron.

Medyo busy kasi ako talaga at wala namang bakasyon from work.
on another topic, guys, ano ba maganda panglinis ng mga plastic interior trims ng altis? medyo nangingitim pala habang tumatagal and hindi makuskos ng basta basahan lang. tnx tnx

There's so many out there that can do the job sir, but I will give you my top 2 choices. If you're only after cleaning simple stains or dirt, Wipeout can already do the job. But if you need something tougher that can clean almost all surfaces of our interior, then go for meguiar's APC.
Btw, I was supposed to bring the car today, but decided to go on a weekday instead. So that I wont be squeezing myself into lines of waiting customers. :|
Ford kasi... it needs a lot of TLC. ;) Kidding aside, I don't know if other turbo vehicles have...
