Torque and how early it appears on the powerband determines how easy it is for the engine to pull from rest.

However, power will still limit how fast you can go.

Take for example a 200D Mercedes. It jumps off the line with minimal throttle input. Pero after that, yun na lang. Minsan mag-iba lang ang elevation ng kalye, nahihirapan na. It's because it makes around 60 or so horsepower din. Kita mo din naman yung jeep. From rest lang hahatak. Pero dead meat na sa expressway. And you can't blame that on aerodynamics alone.

is 7Nm difference in torque a big diff na? i can't get over the fact that the apv's 1.6L engine can product 127Nm, but the 1.3L Avanza is rated at 120Nm(at lower rpm pa).

Sure the D4d is a diesel and makes torque earlier, but power output is essentially the same.

It's a far cry from the 64bhp 5K Lite Ace of years past.
I agree maybe the 1.3 lt Avanza engine can attain 100bhp. pero at what RPM? 5000 rpm, medyo malapit ng sumabog engine mo non. O kaya. can it sustain that load, baka naman after using the Avanza for 1 year as people carrier, e blowby na siya sa second year, expensive overhaul mangyari sa yo. and zero resale value!

5,000 rpm is far from redline. If a gasoline engine is 'malapit nang sumabog' at only 5,000rpm, don't buy that car. When I'm driving the MB100, I'm pegged one hair away from redline when running at 135kph (top speed) on the open highway. Same situation when climbing Baguio. The vehicle is 10 years old. Malayo pa naman sa pagsabog. hehehe.

You also don't need full power to drive the vehicle in normal traffic.

well it is probably because of a smaller gear ratio.

if the avanza was released last year, i would have bought this instead of innova; as i believe this is more appropriate for my needs.

from what i've read that's what vvt-i for. according to toyota press release the 1.3 engine of avanza has an output comparable to a 1.5 without vvt-i.

one of their tv commercials shows horses running on a racetrack. then from the middle of the pack steadily pulling away is a sheep. so kung totoo yung power engine rating ng avanza then that's should be because of vvt-i

nag-o-offer ba ng test drive ang toyota for the avanza? mag tetest drive sana ng innova pero sabi ng SA "hindi na kami nagpapa test drive kasi marami nang innova sa kalsada"

Got my Avanza G AT today. Here are my initial impressions. Pls note that I drove for less than 5kms and it was stop and go all the way.

Arrived at dealership at 2:30 pm. Proceeded to do paperwork, financing kasi. Took forever. Paperwork finished at close to 4:30 pm. Went to the car. Inspected for defects. Noticed the following:

    1. Toyota only gave me one remote. WTF, I complained to the SA and customer relations. Told them that it should be a pair. They said they will inquire with head office.
    2. 3M tint sa rear windshield not perfect. Can see some lines sa defoger.
3M tint passenger side 3rd row glass panel has small bubble. Sales agent flattened it and claimed it will go away.
    3. Rear door/hatch has no door handel. You need to use the key or the lever on the floor beside the driver seat to open the hatch.
    4. 3rd row seat would not lock down. Had Toyota mechanic fix it before driving off.
    5. Seat covers and floor mats not yet available. They don't have them in stock yet.
    6. Rest of the car was in mint condition.
    7. Oh yeah no ABS.

Started to drive, did not take note of the time. But should be past 5pm.
    1. Gas/accelerator pedal very soft and sensitive. Took a few mins to get used to. Was not able to see how responsive it was cause I was pretty much stuck in Quezon Ave and Araneta Ave rush hour traffic.
    2. Brake pedal very firm/hard. I think its bec its still new and needs to be broken in.
    3. Shifting seems to occur at around 2000 to 2200 rpm. Will continue to observe.
    4. There seems to be a lot of blind spots. Was having a difficult time in knowing where the motorcyles and other cars are. Although, I think its bec its new and I am subconciously afraid of getting hit. This usually happens to me when I drive an unfamiliar car.
    5. It feels like you are driving a taller car. Not AUV or SUV high but definetly higher than a sedan. Height kinda like 1st gen CRV.
    6. Went to a shell station in Ma. Clara to claim free 10 liters of gas. Was pleasantly suprised that gas neededl went to 1/2. Had 1/4 in the tank before filling up. This is bec my daily driver has a 90 liter tank. Gotten used to 10 liters hardly registering.
    7. Drove over some pot holes. Asked my wife who was sitting on the 2nd row how it felt. She said its not bad.
    8. Noise level was pretty low. Engine quiet and even street noise was hardly heard.
    9. Lights are ok.
    10. Dual aircon is cold.

All in all it seems to be a a pretty decent car. Is it worth its price? I'll comment after I drive it a lot more.

sir puwede patanong sa agent kung makausap mo pa kung possible na wag kunin yun stereo ng 1.5AT or trade-in na lang. gusto ko kasi stereo yun may touch screen na. bagay-bagay na dyan sa avanza.

ka-dissappoint naman yun wala handle sa likod and no ABS.

saw the avanza up close kanina lang; the interior is definitely quite frugal. door handles had cheap plasticky feel. 3rd row seats are cramped compared to an apv -- gawa na din siguro ng wheel wells protuding at the sides. my knees were virtually touching the 2nd row; pag me nakaupo pa sa 2nd row e talagang sasayad na sa tuhod ko. seating posture is not that comfortable, medyo mataas ung knees ko in relation to my waist.

sa engine bay naman, parang awkward ung pagkalagay ng oil filter; katabi pa niya ung exhaust heat shield, so medyo challenging ata ung magpapalit ng filter B)

imho lang po...for a guy my size, and with the family i have, medyo bitin.

the second row seats split 60/40 and the one seater is on the left side. pero both seats fold and tumble kaya pwede pa rin i-access yung third row from the right side

My biggest complaint about the Avanza G, is that it is equipped with keyless entry system but Toyota only supplies 1 remote! All other cars that I know of comes with 2 sets of remotes.

I undestand they are cutting cost to maximize profits. Its standard for business. But giving 2 keys but 1 remote is just plain dumb! Whoever thought of that should be hanged for stupidity! :hang:

IMO, if they will not give 2 remotes, then don't bother installing keyless entry as a standard feature. I would have prefered to buy an aftermarke alarm system. Might still do so cause the Avanza is not equipped with an immobilizer or starter kill.
