Most of the 2018 models have standard rear wheel disc brakes. Would it be feasible to buy the rear wheel discs and calipers from Toyota casa and do a simple swap for rear drum models?
Thank you.

I've seen conversion kits from Thailand.
It's possible but I guess not from the dealership.

Dito lang ba sa pinas drum brakes pa din ang release ng ibang models ng fortuner?
when you look into the abyss, the abyss looks into you
Don't fix what's not broken ... what's with the obsession to change the brakes? ...
Exactly. For everyday driving, drum brakes on rear are perfectly fine. The stopping power comes almost always from the front wheels unless you're crawling uphill.Don't fix what's not broken ... what's with the obsession to change the brakes? ...
you got it bro [emoji106]

You're not getting the point ... so don't try to flame-bait ...
Um, because their market is willing to pay for it? ... people always complain why this market has this and that ... but when a company includes a technology or feature, people then complain why is it so expensive ... buyers are complaining to Honda about the CR-V with the weaker diesel engine ... take a look at the Mazda CX-5 diesel ... loaded with tech ... nice diesel engine ... and an even nicer price ... but is everyone falling in line to buy? ...
That doesn't explain why other brands can offer their cars with rear disc brakes at a cheaper price. *Cough* montero.. *Cough* everest..

there is a difference between "broken" and "better".Originally Posted by 2869363
and even then, sometimes, the difference is more of subjective than objective.
hey! if it will sell a few more forts,...
I'll purchase the conversion kit in Thailand as soon as my toyota warranty ends. Braking would still be superior when comparing a disc vs. a drum. 1) better heat dissipation. 2) easier to maintain since replacing disc brake pads is hella lot easier than shoe pads. 3) once you wade in a flood prone area your drum brakes automatically suffer... water and dirt gets stuck inside hence making braking very hard and wearing the drum itself.
I've done a couple of DIY conversions as long as you have the basic tools then you're good to go. I did it on my old starex and fortuner and that was more than a decade ago and the aftermarket disc brakes are still in great condition. The price is quite affordable around less than $200 so you wouldn't be taxed by customs now unlike before. ;) P10k above ang taxable ngayon ata sa customs.
I guess it is more of aesthetics. Also the rotor is prone to warp which could result to vibration although this could happen when always at high speed.

Akala ko pinaglalaban ng Toyota na mas okay ang rear drum brakes para sa ganun klaseng SUV? right now they updated with rear disc brakes na in Thailand and sooner or later dito na
