    Great game yesterday.

ADMU deserves to win the game. They manifested more heart and poise during their worst position in the 5th set.

Nevertheless, I should admit that it was a heartbreaker for wifey and myself....

Huwag kang kakampi kahit kanino, hane?

the new dimensions that coach tai has brought to loyola heights volleyball are really groundbreaking. although i feel coach roger gorayeb has done a lot for ateneo volleyball, the thai mentor, w/ his happy, happy approach and in-game meditation practices, has pushed the blue and white fold into another level of gamesmanship and strategy. his vision and technique may be unconventional, but hey, the proof of the pudding is in the eating!

    obf!

btw, w/ games like these, the popularity of pinoy volleyball is certainly going ballistic.

Was ref right to call violation on La Salle at matchpoint? UAAP commissioner speaks

UAAP volleyball commissioner Otie Camangian said on Wednesday the referees were right in slapping a violation on De La Salle at matchpoint, allowing Ateneo to win the match on Wednesday and force a winner-take-all match for the title.

With Ateneo at matchpoint, 16-15, a double violation was called on the floor against La Salle setter Kim Fajardo as the Lady Eagles completed a comeback from 8-12 down in the fifth set to win a highly emotional Game Three, 25-21, 25-23, 18-25, 16-25, 17-15.

    They Said It!
“The referees were very fair. May violation talaga." UAAP volleyball commissioner Otie Camangian

La Salle coach Ramil De Jesus was seen complaining about the call to no avail as the Lady Eagles completed a fightback from 8-12 down in the deciding set and forced a rubber match for the UAAP crown on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

But Camangian defended the match officials, saying they were right in calling a double violation on Fajardo after seeing the replay of the action in the television broadcast.

“There was a violation, definitely,” said Camangian, also the secretary general of the Philippine Volleyball Federation.

Camangian said Fajardo actually committed two violations on the play.

“Dalawa lang ‘yan. It’s either double or illegal attack. Kasi back player siya (Fajardo),” said Camangian.

De Jesus refused to speak with reporters after the Game Three defeat as the whole team left in a huff after the loss, which leaves them a win short of a record fourth successive league championship.

Still, the commissioners said the officiating was fair in the match.

“The referees were very fair. May violation talaga. ‘Yung chief referee at ‘yung ibang official, sabi na tama na may violation,” said Camangian.

Despite insisting that the call was right based on what he saw in the television replay, Camangian assured that he will review the match again on video to see the incident.

“Babalikan ko. Pero sa replay, meron talagang violation,” said Camangian.

Camangian also said the match cannot be placed under protest since the referee's decision in question was a judgement call and not a technicality.

“It’s a judgement call,” said Camangian.

looks like the brilliant juno sauler may possibly become a victim of his own success

SAULER'S ROLE WITH GINEBRA 'TRICKY', SAYS UAAP BOARD MEMBER

By Dennis Principe Published: Mar/14/2014 8:07 AM PHT Subscribe

MANILA -- National University (NU) representative to the UAAP board Junel Baculi said league rules state that all their basketball head coaches are not allowed to coach full-time in any professional league, particularly the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).
Baculi revealed the ruling when told about the recent situation of Barangay Ginebra where assistant coach Juno Sauler who was seen holding the game board during timeouts and was the one devising plays during their first two games in the ongoing PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
“Nasa rules namin ito even sa players. Hindi ka pwedeng mag-head coach sa UAAP kung ikaw ay head coach na ng PBA,” said Baculi.
Sauler is currently the head coach of the De La Salle University (DLSU) who during his rookie season last year led the Green Archers to the UAAP title.
When told about Sauler’s actions with Ginebra, Baculi said it is actually still part of an assistant coach’s job description.
“Huwag lang talaga yung whole game na siya yung nagpapasok ng tao. Siya yung humihingi ng timeout. Pag ginawa niya sa ginebra yun, then may problema,” said Baculi.
Baculi disclosed that even while the UAAP basketball tournament is on a break, their head coaches are still barred to work full-time in the PBA or even on an interim capacity.
“Basta whole season ng UAAP, hindi pwedeng mag-head coach ang UAAP coach sa PBA. Assistant coach sa PBA pwede pa yun,” added Baculi.
Moments after their 108-104 overtime victory over Barako Bull last March 7, Ginebra head coach Ato Agustin admitted that they are now introducing the system of Sauler and that the youthful coach will be devising plays in their upcoming games.
“Nag-iba yung mga plays, kay coach Juno. Lahat naman, collective, lahat ng coaches nagtutulong-tulong. Right now. Lahat yung mga ideas. We’re trying to change all, yung plays na ginawa namin last conference,” said Agustin.
When told about Agustin’s “revelation”, Baculi says that may be a reason for the UAAP board to discuss the issue.
“Medyo tricky na yung situation kung ganun. Siguro pag-uusapan na ng UAAP board yan kung ganon talaga,” said Baculi.

Well, let's see what Boss Danding has to say on the coaching direction of Juno Sauler.

Like what Junel Baculi said though, may lusot pa si Juno for as long as hindi "full time" or whole game long ang pag-coach niya. Matuto sana si Ato sa pagturo niya. Hehehe!
