Pacquiao vs Valero: The Fight Everybody Wants to See!

pacman07.09.06 - by Sean Ocampo: Drop Morales and Barrera for a while. Lets talk about a much more interesting fight between two explosive southpaws in Manny Pacquiao and Edwin Valero. These two fighters are probably two of the most exciting fighters around in boxing. One being considered as pound for pound one the best fighter in the world. While the other one being a fighter on the rise. This match-up has been on a highly contested debate in every boxing forum in the cyberworld. Everyone has their own opinions about this fight. Here are my views.

A fight between Edwin "El Inca" Valero and Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao is one of the most interesting match-up boxing fans are waiting for. This fight will probably going to happen in the near future if Pacquiao decides to continue his boxing career next year..

According to Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach, both of these fighters already met in a sparring session a few years ago. However, Roach also said that he wasn't around when this sparring session occured. Still Roach stated according to reports from the Wild Card Gym, Pacquiao got the most out of Valero during the session.

As we all know, Valero also sparred with Pacquiao's latest rival Erik "El Terrible" Morales when Morales was preparing for Pacquiao in their first encounter. Valero clearly outworked the great Morales in the sparring session at Morales' special training center in the Otomi Mountains. It is also reported that Valero broke Morales' nose during the heated sparring session.

The explosive southpaw from Venezuelan packs power in both hands. As testament to his power, he stopped all of his opponents by devastating knockouts and 18 of these knockouts are coming from the 1st round. However, Valero is still banned from fighting in the United States because he failed an MRI. He's hoping to get back in the United States next year.

Valero made a name for himself in boxing world by when he captured a World Title last month against Vicente "El Loco" Mosquera in Mosquera's country of Panama. He completely overpowered Mosquera with massive combinations and even dropping the Panamanian twice in the first round. He eventually stopped Mosquera in the 11th round of their encounter. That fight solidified Valero's place in the division and the boxing world in general.

Pacquiao, in the other hand, has already proven himself in boxing by owning devastating wins over two legendary Mexican fighters of this generation (Morales and Barrera). He recently beat former world champion Oscar Larios in front of his home fans in Manila. He's one of the rare fire breathing southpaws in boxing together with Valero. The Filipino bomber is scheduled to fight rival Erik Morales this November for their 3rd encounter.

Going to this match-up, this match-up will present something Pacquiao has never seen before. A fighter that is much stronger than he is and probably almost the same speed that he posseses. This fight is not a like the reported sparring session that was held years ago but a real fight between two real warriors.

What should Edwin Valero do to win?

Valero should use try his usual relentless style to make Pacquiao backpedal. But a much improve defense would also be a key to victory. He posseses a better jab than Pacquiao so try to utilize the jab to keep the Filipino at the right distance. Try to overpower Pacquiao and he shouldn't let the Pacman go first with the attack. He should disrespect Pacquiao's speed and power and try to crowd Pacquiao with combinations. Valero should keep his hands up and should be well conditioned when he enters the ring with the Pacman. He needs to pressure the man right from the opening bell.

What should Manny Pacquiao do to win?

Pacquiao must use his speed to beat Valero. He should dig to Valero's body and it will pay off in the later rounds. Try to tire the much stronger Valero. Pacman should have a better defense against Valero to avoid massive lefts and combos. He should try to move and should be in and out with his combinations. Pacquiao should take this fight in the later rounds and step on the gas when he sees Valero fading away. Also try to advantage of Valero's weak defense. He can't afford to be smothered with Valero's non-stop pressure.

Picking somebody in this match-up is difficult knowing both fighters are capable of. Both fighters can definitely knock the other out with their massive lefts but there can only be one winner. I just hope that this fight will be seen in the near future. I'm pretty sure that this fight would be an instant classic.
