I have a shimano tourney set pala. For some reason hindi pa nakakatikim yung mtb ko ng actual terrain mula noong binili siya last 2012 (I don't have time & resources to join clubs). Anyways, ginagamit ko lang siya to bike around our villege and kapag may pupuntahan na medyo malapit naman sa bahay.

Napansin ko lang na hirap siya mag shift up or mag shift down ng gear. Noticeably 2nd to 1st & 1st to 2nd. Ano kaya problem nito? Yung shifters or yung front derailleur? Last tune up ng bike ko was 2 years ago pa since hindi naman masyado nagagamit.

First, you don't need to join a club to try bringing your bike to a trail. Just bike to the trail and get going.

About your concern, just get your drivetrain tuned at your local bike shop. Shouldn't cost you more than 100 pesos.

Thanks! I guess tune up nga need since 2 years ago pa yung huling beses na dinala ko sa shop yung mtb ko. Mahal kasi drivetrain set na maganda (Shimano Deore XT). Probably a good time na rin to let the guys check my brakes.

Cable actuated yan so not much problem kung di mo magawa ng tama unlike hydro based. Pag di mo talaga naayos or nasira, dun mo na pagawa sa suking bike shop. But that's just me ha. Namiss ko tuloy MTB ko. Hehe

Best value for me is the Deore (12k groupset), although the slightly cheaper Alivio has improved a lot that it's a great option for those on a tight budget, at 3k less than a Deore.

What are the complete specs of your bike? If it's too low-end, you're better off going all new instead, and then upgrading from there.

You can DIY the tune-up similar to what I did. Just search for videos in Youtube.

have your drivetrain tuned at your LBS. mura lang 'yan. if possible, panoorin mo na rin kung paano at ano
then, ikabit uli. sisiw lang di ba?

i don't think na sira or may problema sa shifter and /or FD mo.

regularly oil your drivetrain... and oil your cables at least once a year.

Sa LBS ko 25 pesos lang per derailleur ang tuning so I don't bother with DIY anymore. I know how to DIY though since I watched them do it, and I got a set of tools na rin to adjust.

If youre a complete noob, get it tuned first at your LBS then watch and learn how they do it, and then next time ka nalang mag DIY.

Tapos Shimano tourney drivetrain, shifters. Disk brakes then Kenda tires.

congrats sir! the rider is getting better. . .

straight runs na lang muna... para ma- practice getting in and out of the pedals.

Most likely, hydraulic ang fork mo. Wala bang leak yun fork mo?

    Alivio - 9k
    Deore - 12k
    SLX - 16k
    XT - 22k
    XTR - 48k

For a beginner biker, a Deore groupset is more than enough. Use your remaining funds to upgrade your fork. I'd suggest an Epicon XC air fork, around 8k. It's much lighter than whatever coil fork is on your bike now.

Eventually you can upgrade other parts like your wheels. A Shimano MT15 is marginally lighter than the stock wheels of your SGM bike, and it's more durable (not to mention looks much better).

A bike with a good groupset, fork, and wheelset will perform as well as much more expensive bikes. Actually, as with any hobby - Nasa indian yan, wala sa pana.

Casual city and trail riding lang ako dati.
    I use the ff:
Gloves (full or half finger) especially sa trails
MTB shorts (ayoko mag cycling shorts)
    Helmet (a must)
Buff (para may konting filter sa usok)
    Shoes

    Accessories:
Zip lock bag (in case umulan or sumabak sa rivers)
    Cellphone (emergencies)
Pera (pangkain, pamasahe pauwi in case, etc)
    Basic Bike repair tools (patch,interior,levers,multitoolkit,pump)

    Tips:
riding: Always be defensive.kung di kaya, wag pilitin. Ikanga, if in doubt, dismount. Assume all other riders and drivers are idiots.
Meet and greet fellow riders. Enjoy the experience especially sa trails. Have fun.

Thanks sir. Napansin ko din na other bikers use blinkers and reflector belts in the dark. Also sunglass for eye protection.

Onga pala. Blinkers/lights din. I don't wear sunglass kasi nakaeyeglass ako. Pero malaking tulong nga ang shades.

Pag malapitang bike lang, I just bring the ff:

    - Helmet
    - A bit of cash
    - Phone

Pag longer rides, I also bring:
    - Small bike backpack
    - Water/gatorade
    - Wallet
    - Spare inner tube and hand pump
    - Bike gloves

My bike always has rear blinkers and a flashlight up front, since I ride around the city mostly at night.

bang... errrr... crank brothers pedals pala ang gamit mo.
kaya pala, parang iba yata ang cleats ( vs. SPDs ).
galing talaga ng mga rides mo.

just me, mas gusto ko ang mga egg beaters ( Candys ) kesa SPDs.
    easier getting in and out.
