In terms of performance there will be a slight drop considering they aged another year, plus injuries could play a large part in the equation.
What Boston needs is a wing player to balance the Wade and James tandem, Jeff Green is used as a reliever for Pierce or Ray Ray. They need someone in the mold of a James Posey or Tony Allen.
The point guard position is okay barring any major injuries to Rondo or West. Arroyo, Palpavic and Murphy are on buy-out contracts so they are not expected to be resigned. Von Wafer is under contract.
The center position is also a big question, Krstic is a quality center but not a solid one, he's gonna have his hands full say when he is up against a Dwight Howard or Andrew Bynum, this is where they miss Perkins, Glen Davis is undersized to bang up against the centers of opposing teams, Jermaine O'Neal could be a backup but we need help up front, Ainge could have traded for Serge Ibaka instead of Krstic.![]()
Glen "Doc" Rivers just inked a new 5 year multi-dollar extension to coach the Celtics. Looks like he's gonna coach till the end of the current "Big 3" era.
Jermaine O'Neal is contemplating if he's returning for another tour of duty for the team, he still has one year on his contract, some teams interested with Davis and West, very interesting off-season indeed.
Shaq praises Coach Doc Rivers, calls the Celtics a beautiful organization.
Thanks Shaq for making the Celtics a part of your career. Godspeed Big Fella.
Shaq's presser: Praise for Doc, C's - Boston Celtics Blog - ESPN Boston
“Playing for Doc Rivers this year was very, very special," said O'Neal. "There's a lot of talent on that [Celtics] team and [Rivers] always, always, always focused on the team. I came in after going 5-for-6 [shooting from the field] and I'd say, 'Coach, I can go 10-for-12, or 12-for-18.' And he'd say, 'Shaq, it's not about you, it's about the team.' So, thank you, Doc."
O'Neal reiterated much of what he told ESPN Boston's Jackie MacMullan the day of his retirement, including that surgery around the ailing right Achilles likely meant a nine-month recovery and he didn't want to hold the fans of Boston hostage for another season.
He said he wanted to alert Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge of his intentions to retire immediately as to allow the team to start the process of getting younger and more athletic. O'Neal again stressed a disappointment in being unable to stay on the floor, saying he felt like he let the city down. He called the Celtics a "beautiful organization" and suggested there's still championship potential moving forward.

Ray Allen will be back for another year......exercising his player option to remain a Celtic.
Allen exercises player option to remain with Celtics | NBA.com
BOSTON (AP) -- Ray Allen has exercised his option to remain with the Boston Celtics next season.
The decision announced by the team on Tuesday means the Big Three of Allen, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett will be together for one more season. Garnett has one year left on his contract and Pierce has three years remaining.
Coach Doc Rivers will be around for five more seasons, having agreed to a new contract after the Celtics were eliminated by the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Allen has spent four seasons as the Celtics shooting guard after being traded from Seattle. In 2007-08, the first season of the Big Three, the Celtics won their 17th NBA title.
In 15 NBA seasons, Allen has 22,286 points, 24th in league history. Last season, he set the NBA record for 3-point field goals made in a career at 2,612.
Jeff green needs to be comfortable with the system the Celtics are employing, hopefully this off-season he'll be well adapted into the system. The idea is to let Pierce start but limit his minutes, the same ploy used by Coach Chris Ford with Larry Bird and the late Reggie Lewis in the early 90's.
The Celtics needs help in the front court, center, power-forward and shooting guard spots are very vulnerable, Ainge and Rivers should address them.
Celtics need size and rebounding. During the playoffs, their rebounding leader is KG with 10.9 boards a game followed by Rondo with 5.4 per game. If you point guard is your 2nd best rebounder, there is something wrong!
Filling the void up front is the utmost concern of the Celtics top brass this off-season, Green is already in the mix, just need to gel in is what needs to be. Krstic got skills but not athletic, Ainge should have gotten Serge Ibaka from OKC instead of Nenad, a reliever for Ray is also a big question....the Celtics need 2 players to help them out at center and off-guard.
Celtics workout with prospective players they will be drafting come June 23.

Reggie Lewis was the guy groomed to be the successor of Larry Bird, but his untimely death in 1993 cut short his playing career and the team's progress. Here is a sign of what things could have been if he had lived longer.......
Sayang yan ah...iba pa ata yung rookie na namatay dahil sa drugs..magaling din daw sana yun
you mean Len Bias? yeah mas malaki potential nun. ni hindi nakapaglaro. sayang talaga.
Oliver yup, iba pa ito kay Len Bias, # 2 pick back in 86 this is Reggie Lewis # 22 pick back in 87, then in 88 LA Asst. Coach Brian Shaw was our guy. Bias died of drug overdose even before suiting up for the Celtics, Lewis collapsed on a basketball court in the summer of 93 the year Bird retired. Sayang talaga mga talents na ito. As with Shaw he played a year with Boston then in 89 went to Europe for a much higher pay, he eventually returned in 91 as seen in the video with an assist to Lewis. Like what the guy said, this was in 91 the year Jordan and the Bulls won their first of six rings, Jordan never had his shot blocked 4 times in a single game and by the same player, even Laker star James Worthy was all praise for this young Celtic gun.
We really can't say how Len Bias would fare since he had not played in an actual NBA game, but this guy played against the greatest at that time Michael Jordan and based on what he can do on the court, there's a potential for this kid to show some more, it's really a pity he had to go early in his career the same year Net's star Drazen Petrovic died in an auto crash accident.

Red really knows talent when he sees one, getting the late Reggie Lewis with the # 22 pick. Rest in peace guys.

Reggie thanks the Original Big 3 for giving him the "respect" and he's up to the challenge to fill the void that Bird would be leaving behind.
Atlanta's Joe Smith is reportedly on the move, one of his preferred destination is Boston......
Should C's consider Smith? - Boston Celtics Blog - ESPN Boston
Would Atlanta really want aging veterans for Smith?: There comes a time when a clean break is needed -- we might be seeing that in Boston with Glen Davis -- but it would be curious if the Hawks were willing to trade away a young impact player for one-season veteran rentals (and the cap space that followed). Even without Smith's $13.3 million salaryin 2012-13, the Hawks are still on the books for as much as $45.9 million that year and that's with only four contracts. Barring another move to shed a big-money deal, it's not as ifthe Hawks would be immediate players in the Dwight Howard sweepstakes thanks to cap-clogging deals to Joe Johnson, Al Horford, and Marvin Williams (in fact, the loss of Smithwould seem a detriment to any Howard courtship). If Atlanta is eager to move Smith, thereby allowing Horford to move back to power his intriguing aging veterans. forward, it's going to be looking for a center in any deal. Boston doesn't have that unless Sund counts Jermaine O'Neal amonghis intriguing aging veterans.
* Would the Celtics be interested in such deals?: Adding 25-year-old Smith would certainly add youth to an aging Boston roster, but the Celtics' biggest current needs-- center and backup wing -- don't jive with a straight up swap of Smith and Allen. A Garnett swap is intriguing because you get younger at the power forward spot and potentially get a key bench asset in the likes of Hinrich, but the defensive drop-off from Garnett to Smith is pronounced (though it would bewith any player; Smith did rank in the top 10 in defensive rating in 2009-10 and is one of the league's best shot blockers). It would seem far more ideal for Boston to have Garnett around to mentor Smith (who finished second in Defensive Player of the Year voting during that 2009-10 season).
