From the time na nagsimula ako ng NBA in the 90s, I think nagsimula kay Arvydas Sabonis (the Dad of current NBA player Domantas Sabonis) yung pagiging stretch big man.. then kay Nowitzki, and soon after, other bigs followed.

But yes, nag step-up pa lalo si Porzee sa NYK after the Melo trade, and embraced to be the main guy of the Knicks. And I guess solid din yung supporting cast niya (Enes Kanter, Tim Hardaway, Doug McDermott, Courtney Lee, to name a few), dagdag mo pa yung promising rookie na si Nkitilina.

Pwede nang itapon si Joakim Noah (if hindi na siya effective sa Knicks)

NYK are activating Joakim Noah afaik. Need pa din magpahinga ni KP. Para hindi bugbog. Reliable defender naman si Noah. Nabugbog lang talaga sa Chicago kasi naman si Thibs grabe ata magpa-practice.

although hindi ko talaga nakita si sabonis maglaro during his prime (because supposedly the soviet union didn't allow their athletes to play pro) balita ko nga he was the best big man during that time. but from the clips i've seen of him before, he doesn't run the floor like porzingis, although i think porzingis does not pass like sabonis even past his prime.

actually there's another extremely talented early stretch 4 of the nba back in the 80's and his name was ralph sampson. standing at a towering 7'4, his game was heavily criticized because big men then were supposed to play inside the paint. so his perimeter shooting was reined in even though he was a pretty decent shooter. sadly, his career was saddled w/ injuries that's why he never really became a household name after hanging-up his jersey for good. sayang nga at hindi ko din napanuod talaga maglaro itong mokong na 'to hehe

btw, sampson and hakeem olajuwon were the reasons why the phrase " twin towers" in basketball was invented. those words came about when the duo became teammates via the draft at the houston rockets camp

I was able to watch him whenever there were telecasts of the Olympics. He wasn't as agile as the big men now, but his basketball I.Q. was off the charts.

Actually, even before Arvydas Sabonis, the Bulls were playing big man Toni Kukoc in 1993.

Sabonis got drafted earlier by the Trailblazers in 1985 but joined them in the NBA only in 1995.

Sampson and Hakeem brought the Rockets to the NBA Finals in 1986 and fought well against an all-time great Celtics side, with McHale, Bird, and Parish in their primes.

One could also argue that Bill Laimbeer was the first true stretch 5 of the NBA, if you only count the years after the 3 point line was invented. The next one after that would be Sabonis. Note that Manute Bol was also known to shoot the 3 from time to time.
