For me, investing in real estate was more of a security blanket, to be sure to have a place to call my own and not end up having to rent. Whether I'll resell or have it rented out when I'm done using it is a bridge I'll cross when I get there.

Unlike stocks though, real property almost always goes up. It doesn't go through the usual 3-5 year boom/bust cycles of stocks, but is instead more linear. If you don't like paper losses, real estate is a safer bet.

However, it's natural for the market to have bearish phases like what we're having now. Personally, I'm not the least bit worried about it. I won't be using the money I've invested in the next 3 years, and I'm 100% sure that the market will bounce back. If anything, I'm actually happy that we're in a slump because it's the equivalent of stocks being on sale. I wish I had extra money to put into stocks today...

    Time to buy folks!

Drop in the PSEi mirrors the drop in the Dow, which dropped 500 pts this weekend.
