UV lamps effective for COVID virus?

planning to bbuy uv lamps as a disinfectant for virus (covid if possible). it will be used like for groceries/clothes/gadgets used when we go out of the house.

any comments if the lamps are really effective? and any suggestions on what specs should i look for?

You're looking for UVC lamps. Honestly, I wouldn't bother with this. The risk of exposing yourself to UVC isn't worth the convenience of sanitizing your stuff since there are simpler ways.

If you really want to be safe, just leave your groceries outside for three days. Why three? Studies say, covid survives for up to three days on plastic, which is what most groceries are packed in.

I personally leave it in my car since I hardly use it and it's much warmer than my garage.

Food items that need refrigeration can be washed with soap and water so just ensure they're properly packed when bought. You can just wipe your gadgets and other stuff with alcohol and let dry for a minute or so.

Gives you 2 things...No harm & a false sense of security. Most out there are likely placebos....Get the pricey 1, AirTamer, if you must.[emoji4]

hospitals have been doing it for decades.
just be sure you get "the real thing" and not the mosquito zapper-quality.
and the room should be devoid of mammals before turning it on.
heh heh.

how do we know it's the real thing? i don't know.
probably by sourcing it from knowledgeable suppliers like hospital supply stores.

No brainer for me bro. For their air purifiers, even if the ions don't work, you're still left with a good HEPA filter system.

I had the opportunity to attend the meeting hosted by AMOSUP last night. According to one of the doctors, he said that CoViD 19 can pass through the filter because it is smaller than HEPA filter. He added that the HEPA virus is a bit larger compared to CoViD 19.

I couldn't recall if he is Dr. Pile or Dr. Papa who said that. There is another doctor but his name escapes my memory.

His recommendation, if you want to use it, make sure that the room is vacant. Overall recommendation to minimize the transmission in an air conditioned room is that it must have a free flowing air.

Again, I couldn't remember the recommended numbers for the AHU. However, he emphasized that you should leave the windows and doors open as much as possible.

I believe though cheap ko lang nabougt yun UV lamp that it is working..Why because of the Ozone smell it produces kung fake yun UVC ray nya am sure tepok virus sa Ozone kase oxidizing agent yun...Also sa Laboratory where.my wifey works same lang din daw gamit nila and she's familiar sa pungent smell nung Ozone..UVC lamp gamit nila sa microlab nila pang sterilized.

I built a big plastic storage Box frm SM and put in my portable UV lamp with remote and timer...yun now ang andun sa may garage ko...All of my used clothes, shoes, bags keys, coins, money, grocery, etc.. even my order foods shoot muna dun..will be zapped before it enters my house. My foothbath hardly used na kse need.lagi ka pa magtimpla ng chlorox..chlorine degrades in sunlight..

The doctor must have meant that the filter will not be effective in filtering CoViD 19.

We installed UVc lamps before and after the air handling unit evaporator coils of our AC system. Not that anyone on the rig got sars (from riding on airplanes) but in just a week nobody on the rig got cough and colds anymore. Whilst before if one got on board with a cough or cold then it starts to spread around. After that transmission was cut to almost none. One downside is of course the smell of ozone but we were able to remedy that by increasing the make up air setting on the ahu.

UVc does work. Get the one with timer so it turns on after you leave the room. Also make sure all in your house are aware when the lamp is on so nobody accidentally enters the room.

actually thinking of a DIY UV box. uv lamp from shopee (less than 1K for a 15wbulb), tapos bili ng big black plastic box (home gallery etc) sa SM. so if there are stuff that needs disinfecting, i put in the box, turn on the lamp for 30mins. similar to what jiggs posted.
