We may also need to upgrade from a 2.5 to a 3.0 based on the area and usage (living room + kitchen + small bathroom + stairs). We decided on a Panasonic but since we might be getting a bigger unit we will have to check their prices again. They recommend Daikin and Panasonic in terms of reliability. They also carry LG and Hitachi.

If all goes well everything should be up and running by this weekend
Grats, brother John! Daikin if you can. Pana , if you can't.[emoji106]
Good you stood firm on the drain size.[emoji106]

Panasonic installation successful! That 1" drain line is huge!

The whole system spent almost an hour on the vacuum pump. They kept it running while they were wiring and wrapping up the pipes.

I think I overpaid somewhere because they threw in a free breaker even when our box already had a breaker set aside just for the aircon.

So many posts on FB with conflicting advices. Some say don't use the aircon or it'll clog with ash or the ash will cause some kind of short circuit. Concepcion Industries says it's perfectly fine to use it.

    So, which is correct?

I actually think it's okay to use it dahil air intake comes from indoor air. The outdoor unit blows air outwards naman.

where does the outdoor unit get the air that it blows outward?
from the outdoor air that may be contaminated by taal ash!

i think the answer to the question, is both a yes and a no, depending on conditions, to wit:

if the machine is a gas or diesel engine, the ash, which is actually very very fine crystal material, may be sucked in thru the air intake and not get filtered by the air filter. once it gets into the combustion chamber, it acts as sandpaper material, scouring the cylinder walls and causeing premature engine failure.

if it's our ordinary airconditioning units, the very fine ash will easily get blown thru and emerge past the aircon's heat exchange fins. no damage results.
but if the ash is heavy, it may clog these fins.

if the fine ash settles on our beautiful car's finish, and someone attempts to wipe it off using (any) cloth, that smooth paint job may get scratched beyond belief.

now, if the ash gets inhaled by humans and other animals... see the volcano thread. it's listed there.

    my opinion.

#perfectly fine to use it. It will not severely clog up. If it clogs up it will simply stop cooling to protect itself. Overpressure or overheat sensors work. It will not self destruct. I work on chillers

    my fear is,
all that ash will clog the roads' drainage system...
it is probably better to sweep them away and dump them where they will do some good.

samin pwede syang panambak.. yun nga lang sa mga mainroad at sa iba pang kalsada.. tapos paulit ulit nga lilipadin ng sasakyan kapag di mawalisan..
