A lot of new player now in the market such as redmi, oppo, infinix, poco etc.... they are offering great specs for an affordable price that's why Samsung has to release mid range phone in order to compete with them. Personally, 80-90K for a top of the line phone is just too much you can get it same specs for less than half the price.

Yes but I mean if you have a casing in your phone you can hardly tell the difference if it is samsung, apple or xiaomi not unless you recognize and see the back camera.

    I disagree.

The only mid-range phones I can personally use are the iPhone SE and the Pixel 6a.

I find the others a bit too slow for me.

(I think dito ko din napost yun)

Last Christmas, I have a few Galaxy A's as gifts. I had to set-up a few of them and transferring data was so slow.

Later, I found out that the phones I gave didn't even support 5GHz Wi-Fi

    pero as I've always said...

if you can't see & feel any difference, then just buy the cheaper device

I personally can see the difference between 60hz vs 120Hz, pero I can't see the difference between FHD and 4K

the whole point of a status symbol phone is even if there are phones available that are reasonably priced and perfectly suitable for your needs but you still choose the buy the most expensive phone in the market

the whole point in buying something that isn't any better but far more expensive is to signal that you have resources to waste

how do you define a status symbol phone? - a Vertu? or a Fold/Flip?

Because if you want a device that runs iOS... the only cheap phone you can get is an iPhone SE that looks like an iPhone 6! Better spec Chinese phones? go ahead, Facetime kayo using Facebook Messenger

Then there's Samsung vs Pixel vs Chinese alternatives... you can easily see if a selfie was taken using a Chinese phone!

again... if you can't see the difference, then buying the more expensive phone is just "yabang"

Same! I've bought Samsung A and M phones for my second number. The performance is so far from my note. The premium pricing is so worth it. The M phone I bought less than a year ago are showing signs na masisira na. I buy the most expensive because I want something that will last me a long time. I use my phone until it dies, usually average ko 5 yrs.

I can't even distinguish phones like which is expensive or cheap. Alam ko lang na cheap Cherry and Oppo kasi naririnig ko sa asaran but I don't really care for a person's phone.

I also had this experience of riding a Grab

Nasa Service rd kami and his Wave thought na nasa SLEX kami

Sabi ko sa driver na may mali sa Waze nya, he said its normal with his phone na sablay ang GPS, he also confirmed this with ither drivers/riders using the same phone.

i bought someone a samsung fold.
kailangan niya yung increased screen area.

some might call it a status symbol,
while others actually need the features.

i have found that if we get the phone as part of term plan,
    the phone is sim-locked.
we need both smart and globe, in one phone.

Pwede doc Smart+Globe even if it's carrier locked, but the "other" telco is limited to SIM2 and can only be used for calls/texts (no mobile data).
    Tested with a Smart-locked Z Fold 3.

The fold form factor works surprisingly well. When opened the screen is like having an iPad Mini with the bottom 1/3rd of the screen chopped off. The square aspect ratio has pretty much no benefit to games and videos, but it's good for reading ebooks which is my primary use for a tablet. Yun lang you gotta have real man pockets coz with the phone folded the thickness is like having two phones.

In the end I opted to dispose of the Z Fold 3 and continue with my current device loadout of separate phone and tablet. Ok din kasi to do most reading on a separate device so it doesn't run down the phone battery (we all know when using a device as a web or ebook reader the biggest consumer of battery is the screen).

Oneplus 10t is coming. It's one of those 40k phone with TOTL specs. Notable specs for me, snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, 12 GB ram and 256 GB storage, Wifi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, 150 Watts wired charging, 120 hz HDR10+. Although with WiFi 6 I have to upgrade my router to fully utilise it, eh kakabili ko lang. Also hindi ako sure if 150 Watts charging is good or bad in the long run.

    Compare it with Samsung S22 ultra na 72k. Snapdragon 8 gen 1, 12gb and 256gb storage, Wifi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, 120Hz, HDR10+, 45 Watts.

For me I'll take the oneplus because of its clean OS, no bloatware and if there's any it can be uninstalled, and of course its 30k less. But I'm sure Samsung will win with camera quality and other features. But is that enough to warrant the extra 30k? Siguro depende na lang sa gagamit yan kung kailangan nya talaga mga extra features na yun.

    using Samsung as an example...

a person decides to get a Galaxy A instead of a J... so status symbol dapat yung A?

Higher end A series phone will get longer Android updates which means a longer use for the phone. di pa ba sulit yun?

sa iPhone naman, you get 5 years iOS support. then knowing App developers will support upto 3 years ng old OS, that's a good 8 years magagamit mo yung phone.

may kilala ka bang tumagal ang Galaxy A ng more than 5 years?

    (my personal opinion)

Phone is a tool... its something we can't live with.

some people don't cook at home, yung iba walang TV, yung iba di na nagbubuklat ng newspaper...

hmmm... (again my personal opinion and my own personal use ng phone)

strange na the phone doesn't have wireless charging
    no quadlock case available
    no IP rating
