It could be that Lenovo is a contract manufacturer for IBM in the heydays but ownership & contract manufacturing are two different bananas... Mas mataas quality control ng contract manufacturing relationship because IBM can reject the laptops that did not pass their quality control... now being an owner may degrade the quality especially if Lenovo is cost-cutting... from the news... it seems that they are losing money and are also sub contracting the thinkpads... so as a buyer your only basis is to have a subjective evaluation of IBM quality control over Lenovo quality control...
I bought my laptop at Fry's last July. It costed me $700 - $50rebate

Got it for USD 650 including all taxes, not bad for Php32t. Good thing i brought over my laptop bag as it does not come up with one.
I recently purchased two notebooks, one for the wifey and the other for myself. I bought my wife a Gateway which was on sale from $999 down to $750, and during the Black Friday sale where I waited in line for four hours in the cold, a Compaq which originally sold at $750 for $399. The four year old desktop which I was using is now in the little hands of our three year old daughter.

seguro may batch na madaling masira na optical drive, mine matagal na to been a lot of dvd burnings, readings.. mag 2yrs this coming july07 lapit na expire international warranty ko ni isang part never let me down or been replaced.... i just replaced the 60G to 80G last time ala pa kasi mga 100G last year
meron talaga bro, maniniwala na sana ako na dahil lang sa madalas gamitin kaya nasisira, pero yung dalawa kong kasama sa trabaho, sira din dvd nila, di naman nila madalas gamitin. sabay sabay kami nag claim ng warranty. natapat lang siguro, sana bilisan lang ng service center sa susunod ang service nila. happy new year to all...
