    Slightly OT:

I primarily play HD movies off of my server. Can a Smart LED TV be a substitute for media streamers such as WD TV Live, Xtreamer, Popcorn Hour, Roku, etc.? More importantly, can it play a plethora of movie file formats from a networked PC without a hitch?

    The models I'm considering are:

    Smart LED TV:
LG SMART LED 42” 42LS5700 or
    LG SMART LED 42” 42LV3700

    Conventional LED TV:
    LG LED 42” 42LS3400

FWIW, I already have a WDTV Live Streaming Media Player connected to a conventional LCD TV.

Not quite sure about that one... but most LCD and LED TVs with built in media-player functionality don't have the wide variety of pre-loaded codecs that the WD player does.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Thanks for that. After reading a bit more on smart/Internet TVs, I think I answered my own question... I'll just take a pass on the hype.

I feel that the technology is still in its infancy and I could probably just use the money for a bigger non-smart LED TV. I tried browsing the Internet using my brother's PS3 and 46" LED TV and it gave me a headache. All that squinting and zooming in/out can get pretty old, pretty fast.

For what the current-generation smart TVs can do, I'd probably be able to do better with the WDTV + iPad2 combo for media playback and apps/Internet, respectively. :D
