If buying a LCD w/ LED backlighting, make sure its a full array LED backlight and not edgelit.

Full array LED do not have the slim form of the edgelit, but provide better visuals than edgelit.

This is what I'm planning to get soon for the nook

^ +1000 paps. full array can adjust its brightness per zone to increase contrast.

pero bottomline, all that are a means to increase contrast, which plasma has by gobs. ang mura na rin ng plasma ngayon. Panasonic 42" for P22k sa Mega (or try nyo rin sa mga iba pang boutique shops).

Here's a link to give an idea on how much power a plasma, standard backlit LCD, and LED-backlit LCD consume.

The chart: HDTV power consumption compared - CNET Reviews

Plasmas have great PQ, but the power consumption, heat dissipation, and the limited availability of 1080p models were a turn-off. The 42" LG LED TV I have is only using up about 45W with the Eco mode set to minimum, and about 30-35W when set to maximum. By comparison, a plasma display of the same size can consume anywhere between 180-280W. Not to mention that the extra heat generated would mean your A/C (if you use one) will have to work a bit harder to cool the room, adding to the overall electricity cost.

Always look at the total cost of ownership (TCO) rather than just the up-front purchase price.

+1, that's why plasmas' don't sell much for common consumers.

pero sa mga enthusiast, peborit nila plasma because of very good pq

Id rather spend my extra money for the sound system.

Those entry level plasma by Panasonic reportedly have bad resolution. Panasonic does not seem to improve their entry level plasma. They merely change the name, to make people think there is an improvement over last year.

If you want plasma by Panasonic better go for their pricier lines.

Yep. Pioneer Kuro for me when watching blurays.

I'll use the LED for cable tv viewing at the breakfast nook.

more like a prototype pa ang 3D technology ngayon. Give it 2-3 years, para maging fully functional na ang 3D.

OT na kung bose na pagusapan. Haha back to topic.

hmmm... i'm not sure na mas manipis ang edge lit LED sa mga large screen tv's. kasi nga you have to bring the light up into the center, so you need reflectors to spread the light. yung edge-lit LED tv's eh halos pareho lang ng mga CCFL backlit LCDTV's. yung full array, you won't need the thickness para sa reflectors kasi yung LED arrays na mismo ang naka-spread.

ano ba ang standard viewing distance when watching your LED TV? Viewing distance in relation to the size of your LED TV.

yep, edge lit can be thinner compared to back lit since the former requires less amount of LED
