Am also planning to buy one soon, so I asked around various PC shops in Greenhills and in several malls, (and also checked online pricelists). I usually ask them to recommend three most reliable brands based on lower return/defect rate.
Common response I got (outside Apple as I prefer Windows based laptop/ultrabook) was these three brands:
Asus
Sony
Toshiba
Specs can be decided after that.
And based on further research, I'm leaning towards Asus because of reliability stats, and better priced than the other two Japan brands.
Best prices I'm getting for laptops are at Gilmore. Hope this helps.
How about we bundle our purchase, we might get a special price for 2 or more laptops from the same shop at same time.

As per my experience using Windows laptops:
MSI - my first ever laptop which was bought last July2009. Got it for 27K with free mouse. After 2 years the hinge broke. Took it to megamall for repair, cost me P2500 IINM. Still functions even now as I've given it to my brother in the PH. Battery life is crappy, can only do 1hr nowadays.
Dell - wifey's first laptop bought here (ordered online thru Dell site). Around $600 that time and it was actually good. Still functions up to this day but much slower, and weaker battery life.
As per experiece repairing laptos:
I think I have repaired about a hundred laptops during my work as a Computer Technician. It ranges from infection from viruses, trojans, reinstalling OSes, installing software and security programs, calibrating and replacing battery life, upgrading RAM, HDD, replacing non-working fans and heatsinks, broken screens, coke-spilled keyboards - the whole nine yards.
Most of the laptops i've repaired were Acers, HPs and e-Machines. For every 10 laptops that went in our shop, 7 of then are Acer.
Not actually bashing Acer for having poor quality, maybe it's their low cost that drives people in buying them.
To sum it up, for 30-35K, find a used 13" macbook or an older 15" macbook pro. They are really durable and withstand the test of time (and user's abuse).
They can be easily upgraded by swapping optical HDDs to SSDs and/or adding more RAM.

i've had MSI and ACER.. parehong mabilis masira.. better buy something na matibay kahit medyo mahal.. Sony Vaio, Lenovo, Toshiba or Asus for me.. if you have relatives in the states.. mas malaking mura sa bestbuy.. check their prices.. i bought one from bestbuy last year thru my uncle and I got a toshiba 17.3", i7, 8GB memory, 750GB HDD, tft lcd, windows 8 for only $730 including gst, so around 30K lang sya.. dito sa pinas.. nasa 100K sya..

i can attest to asus's durability. my first asus laptop lasted 5 years, i changed it due to upgrade, my current asus has been with me since 2007, havent changed anything except the keyboard which was covered by warranty when i accidentally spilled vinegar on it hehe. this laptop is still working fine, i run it overnight downloading movies, battery is busted tho, will last less than 5mins unplugged, also body has alot of scratches and faded portions, especially near palm rests and touchpad. so my next laptop will be asus again

yes wanted the zenbook too but price is out of my budget which is weird because my last asus laptop i bought costs around 75k, i guess with most laptops pricing around 20-30k ayoko na magspend higher than 40k, i think around 50k+ yan but man, specs rock!
gusto ko rin ng ultrabook, so i guess i will be going with the s46cm, thanks ghosthunter!

Yung Samsung ba na Activ Book 4 new arrival ba yun or luma na?
Wala silang brochure eh.Last edited by gearspeed; September 27th, 2013 at 04:29 PM.
