Laptop battery repacking or replacement

My laptop battery is a 6 cell lithium-ion 4.0Ah, 43Wh. Tried to look at cyberzone in SM wala available by order basis 2 weeks leadtime mabilis na daw yun. Do you know of shop where laptop batteries is available or who are good in repacking? Thanks in advance.

There is a store that does reputable laptop battery repacking but they take a week or so to do a job.

The shop is located at the ground floor (straight to the back then the store on your right which sells some surplus stuff) of Gilmore Comm. Plaza located near the corner of Gilmore and Aurora Ave, New Manila, QC. Sorry I didn't remember the store's name nor phone number.

Another store is the battery shop (you'll know it when you see it) at the 4th floor of V-Mall, Greenhills. Also in V-Mall is the gadget "booth" selling MP3 players, cameras, etc near the elevator. They charge P450/cell. No idea on the quality of work though.

As sir GH mentioned, there's also the battery shop sa 4/F; i recently went hunting for replacement battery for an IBM T-series laptop. mga 4.5k ung bigay sa akin(japan made kuno), coz the cheaper model is out of stock

tingin ko i'd opt for the replacement na lang. repacking would entail opening up the original plastic casing(which i doubt it designed to be opened), and i'm a bit paranoid in the midst of exploding cellphone/laptop battery reports on the net.

korek, a better option will be replacements than repacking because of the reason that you have stated. imagine putting your laptop on your lap, tapos biglang sumabog...sunog ang itlog....

Actually some laptop battery packs can be opened by loosening the clip tabs found on the sides of the pack.

Sorry for late reply due to temporary suspension of our dsl line. Thank you very much for the information and advice. By chance due to full parking at mega mall last sunday i parked my car at podium and walk to mega mall passing st. francis square. Marami stalls selling mobile phones and there is a laptap repair shop hottoys ata. The guy there said better to buy replacement battery than repacking. Meron available for P3.5K kaya lang wala ako cash at di ko dala yun laptap at that timeat hindi ko pa na balikan up to now. I will check also prices sa mga suggested store you mentioned. sir, kanina lang just replaced my battery by CAMWORKX , area is the bldg (MN Bldg ??? 2nd floor) beside shakeys at pasig kapitolyo shaw blvd. Laptop was dell vostro 1400 - battery price 3,800. hope this helps

So far the one I tried was at Gilmore... and it was pretty much okay except they were a day late from their original estimated delivery date (1 week).

on repacking - safety of lithium ion/polymer (lipo) batteries:

base on my experience with lipo batteries sa R/C and readings on rechargeable lithium based batteries:

1) dapat binabalance ang charge ng bawat cells - usually done internally by the laptop charger na yun.
2) overcharging one cell will lead to weak batteries and will eventually have problems in charging (thereby causing explossion). kung may problem ang laptop charging system lang nangyayari eto.
3) too much power in charging of lithium batteries will cause heat build-up (thereby can also cause explossion). same din, may factor ang charging system ng laptop.
4) battery explossion (in reality) is really an extreme case scenario - masyado ng kapabayaan yun (like alam ng sobrang init e hindi pa rin ini-unplugged, faulty na ang power management/charging system ng laptop, overworked batteries).
5) NEVER drain your lipo batteries. They will die fast. Unlike NiCd and NiMH, Lipo doesn't have the "memory effect" ng charging. So limit the times that you over drain the charge. Most laptop have a power management system which halts the computer (hybernate) pag-mababa na ang charge.... similarly do not abuse that, kasi kahit naka hybernate it is still draining the battery. So charge it asap.

A 2 year life on the laptop battery na frequently used is already an excellent lifetime. Expect to replace them in 2 or 3 years. Kung hindi umabot ng ganun katagal yun, likely you always drain it or may problem ang charging system (hindi na babalance charge ang lipo cells).

Sa re-packing make sure that the battery is initially charged and "balance-charge"... kung hindi balanse yun, malamang hindi tatagal yun.

How to check the charge... you will need a digital volt meter... yung "poles" ng lipo battery ay usually more than two kasi bawat ends nito ay connected... so if you just try to poke one pole and match it with the other poles (one at a time) you will like get a voltage reading. A typical lipo cell will give at least anywhere around 3 to 3.7 volts (depending on the lipo).

Cells below 3v is indicative to a failing battery cell. Minsan kaya mahina na ang battery kasi one of the several battery cells are near dying na.

One recommended solution (which I have yet to try) is to charge that cell back to the right voltage. Then balance charge it with the rest of the batteries. Kung walang sira ang charging system ng laptop this should not be a problem.

Actually this is also my problem, my NEO laptop is 7 months without the battery, I asked the NEO service center along Shaw Blvd. to source last January, upto now no answer, still sourcing. I'm now looking for a replacement but to no avail.
