my electric bill is P1,850 for the month of august from P2,200 last july.

ERC allows Meralco to raise rates by P6.23/kwh
    By Donnabelle Gatdula
Tuesday, September 4, 2007 Customers of the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) will be paying an additional P6.23 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), according to an order of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).
However, the ERC left it up to Meralco to determine how the increase would be implemented on a staggered basis, spread over a period of time to temper the full impact of the electricity rate increase on consumers.
The increase in rates of Meralco customers was the offshoot of an ERC order for the Philippine Electricity Market Corp. (PEMC) to re-impose the effective settlement prices for the months of September and October 2006 at the wholesale electricity spot market (WESM).
The settlement prices during these months were subject of a probe when the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp. (PSALM) allegedly engaged in a price manipulation scam.
Middle of this year, however, the ERC, after an investigation, found PSALM not guilty of price fixing, which led to the reimposition of the effective settlement prices during those months.
Aside from Meralco customers, those being served by other distribution utilities in the Luzon grid will pay an additional P2.60 per kWh due to the ERC order.
Based on the ERC ruling, PSALM has the right to collect P9 billion – including interest – worth of additional payments to account for the unsettled costs of its traded volume on those months.
The PEMC, during this period, was compelled to enforce administered prices to soften the impact on electricity consumers.
PEMC had reduced the settlement prices for those months to P3.22 per kWh (Aug. 26-Sept. 25 billing) from a computed load weighted average price (LWAP) of P4.85 per kWh.
PEMC also imposed only P3.09 per kWh worth of settlement prices for Sept. 26-Oct. 25 billing from P6.77 per kWh after announcing the findings of its Market Surveillance Committee (MSC) that PSALM committed anti-competitive behavior and has been rapped for abuse of market power in the WESM.
But the recent ERC ruling pointed out that PEMC should work out a way to implement the order to avoid any possible price shocks.
ERC said PEMC must “institute adjustments in its billing and settlement processes to mitigate the impact of the instant decision upon the WESM members.”
In its order, the ERC “declares as invalid the action of the PEM Board in adjusting the WESM settlement prices for having been carried out beyond the scope of its authority and in violation of the EPIRA (Electric Power Industry Reform Act) and WESM Rules.”
The ERC also pointed out that unsettled costs during the billing periods covered may carry interest charges that must be charged by participants in the WESM.
ERC noted that based on WESM Rules, “if a trading participant fails to pay any amount due and payable by it under the WESM Rules, such overdue amount shall bear the default interest reckoned from the first day such amount is due and payable, up to and including the rate on which payment is made, with interest computed based on a 360-day year.”
Meanwhile, Pampanga Rep. Juan Miguel Arroyo said yesterday the House energy committee, which he chairs, will look into the alleged manipulation of power rates by state corporations involved in the industry.
“We will be exercising our oversight powers to correct any anomaly to ensure that true market forces and transparent processes prevail in the setting of power rates,” the presidential son told reporters.
Arroyo said his committee would treat the matter with utmost priority because if the alleged price fixing is true, it would prejudice millions of consumers.
The price manipulation by the National Power Corp. and the PSALM was exposed in a privilege speech last Wednesday by Bukidnon Rep. Teofisto Guingona III.
His speech has been referred to Arroyo’s committee.
Guingona said the state power agencies now want the ERC to allow them to collect P9 billion from consumers at the manipulated electricity prices.
“In spite of the fact that they were caught dictating and manipulating prices, they want to be allowed to collect P9 billion. This would translate into an increase of P2 per kWh in the consumers’ monthly bills,” he said.
He urged the ERC to reject the collection demand of power producers involved in the manipulation of prices last year.
He also disagreed with President Arroyo and Rep. Arroyo that the EPIRA of 2001 should be amended to bring down electricity rates.
He said there is nothing wrong with the law and that the defect lies in its implementation.
The government failed to sell 70 percent of its generating assets within three years from the enactment of EPIRA as mandated by such law as a condition for promoting competition and bringing down prices, he said.
He said as of now, only 43 percent of such assets have been privatized. – With Jess Diaz

    2k-4K.

pero, comment lang: kung 4K or 7K or 9K ang bill, saan range ito maire-record? kung 4K ba ay sa range ng 2K-4K or 4K-7K? same with 7K (4K-7K or 7K-9K?) and 9K (7k-9K or 9K and up?).

Dati rati nasa 1K to 1.2K ang bill namin sa kuryente last year. basically for the same load nasa 2K to 2.4K now

Meron akong gamit na power saver, effective sya..

I can explain kung bakit effective sya..

Basically, capacitor lang sya... and ang gawa nya is cancel out the inductive load.... kasi ang meters natin, nababasa nya yung apparent power... which is the total power or reactive + real power..... yung reactive is a combination of both inductive nad capacitive... although capacitive power cancels out the inductive power..

Take note....

I don't expect you to believe me... pero if you could save atleast 300-500pesos per month sa bill mo... sulit na yung cost ng isang unit in a matter of 3 months..

we have 5 rooms sa haus...used to have tv's in each room. ngyn sa sala ng ground, 3rd floor and master bedroom n lng. added benefit is that nababantayn nmin kng ano pinapanuod ng mga kids plus it encourages family time. we also gradually updated our appliances. we look at the efficiency rating of each appliance that we purchase.
