Got our MyDSL connection installed last Saturday. The best speed that I can get is around 320kbps (vs. their claim of 999kbps) and the technician was telling me that this is so because our account is not yet fully activated. He also told me that he tested the modem in the office earlier in the day and it achieved a speed better than 800kbps....(I know that he is just pulling my leg.)
Anyway, the connection was up and down Saturday night and it was practically down the whole of Sunday so I called 171. The guy on the other line was telling me that our account has not yet been fully activated on their computer so it probably is the reason why the connection was intermittent and that it should be okay (and the speed too) in the next one or two days. So, I need to follow-up.
In comparison with our existing SmartBro connection, the speed of 320kbps is about the same, probably a little slower. However, our SmartBro connection is definitely more reliable (based on our 1 year of use) compared to MyDSL as of this writing because I can have access almost anytime on the SmartBro. My fear is if I finally decided to shutdown our SmartBro and shift to MyDSL, then I could be in for a bigger trouble because of no access.
Anyway, I was talking with a friend last night and he told me that his internet speed is very slow nowadays compared to his experience during the upgrade. Well,- it is another spin to this story.....
The PLDT tech guys came over today and changed the phone lines on the electric posts. Meron daw kasi silang nakukuhang reading which interferes with DSL, dapat daw zero ang reading. They also changed the modem to the one used in internet cafes, Zyxel ang brand.
The modem that was installed in our MyDSL is a Zyxel P600.
boybi,- how is your connection nowadays?

hmm tibay ng nokia dsl modem na binigay nung start ng subscription ko more than 2yrs ago, 24/7 naka-on lang walang break break..still going strong at halos 95% of the time walang disconnection for the past 6months![]()
Thanks bro.
Bad news pa rin,- wala pa ring connection the whole day yesterday.
I was about to transfer na sana ang aking WRT54G wireless router last night, pero hindi ko magawa dahil down pa rin... The modem's DSL LED does not turn on.. (I know it's functional because it lights up during power-up's self-test mode)....

Ang ginawa ko I called 172 everyday to report and follow-up the problem.
Thanks for the input bro.
Iyon nga lang, I need to sleep last night at hatinggabi na, pero I was able to use the DSL for about 1.5hours without interruption. My speed was about 450kbps. After using the connection, I shutdown the modem....

i have the same problem with my recently installed PLDTDSL line ... intermittent ang connection.
tried calling 172 to report the problem and there is a recorded message saying that there is a problem with something and someone is working hard at fixing it.... i wonder kung ilang taon na yang recording na yan
they claim that the problem has been reported to their technical group and that they will be contacting me for some tests .... one week has passed ... no call
my initial problem was that my new 3000 peso/month account has almost the same speed as my previous 1995 peso/month account ...
now the problem is hindi na talaga ako maka connect doon
sa bagong account paminsan-minsan.
Update lang ulit sa aking MyDSL.... As expected wala na namang DSL connection last night when we arrived home from work, around 7:30PM- so I waited and finally nagkaroon ng around 10:30PM..... Mabilis ang connection at around 600kbps.... I tried to download and the download speed is about 70KBps.... The connection is not intermittent as I was able to use it for over an hour (I needed to go to sleep) without any glitch.... This means that our line is immaculate.
My take is that the PLDT system has a lot of issues. Or, worse, I think that their DSL is oversubscribed and that we are only getting DSL connection when everyone else has given up and/or someone gave up his/her connection. Remember that I am on dynamic IP address.
I was talking to one of the PLDT engineers/techs yesterday afternoon who responded to my 172-call and he told me to test our phone by lifting the handset and pressing 1. I did this last night and the line is clear,- no static. This further strengthened my (unexperienced) opinion that our line is clear, without any problem and the issue is with the ISP provider.
Anyway, I will report the issue again to 172 and through email, requesting that a PLDT engineer/tech visit our place and diagnose/correct the problem during the weekend. This is the Nth time I am reporting the problem on the Nth day that we had the MyDSL installed in our place. Whew!
This early,- I am very frustrated, but hoping that things will get better.
By the way, if I remember correctly (and it is easy to check anyway), the recording on the phone is telling us that we may experience degradation in speed but is not telling us that we will experience no connection. These are 2 different things as I can probably, in the interim, accept the former, but not the latter.

Huh, bakit ito nasa top 10 most recently posted thread?.....Anyway, our MyDSL was down the whole day yesterday and right now, early in the morning, I was able to connect to it with speed of only 150kbps.... I will not turn off the modem so that I can hug the connection and let's see what happens.....

I have been on PLDT DSL for the past 3 years, wala namang problem most of the time. Ang complaint ko lang is that I don't get the advertised speed for a 1995 plan - dapat up to 2Mbps pero I only get up to 1.2Mbps. According to PLDT, dahil di pa raw NXGN ang network sa area namin... di ba unfair for them to be charging 1995 for speeds that can be had for plan 999 in other areas?
And if you want to downgrade, may charge pang 5T pesos.Hassle nga lang to have it disconnected and reconnected at a lower plan.
Buti pa sa ibang counties, normal na ang speeds of 10Mbps and up. Kailangan talaga ng more competition dito...
BTW, as far as tsikot.com is concerned, mukhang mabilis ang connection in the mornings...
Ang palusot kasi ng PLDT dyan, ang nakalagay sa advertised speed nila is up to 2mbps. And a tech guy whom I talked to said na dapat makakuha ka ng at least 60% of the connection speed of your plan. Sa case mo na dapat 2mbps, 60% of that is 1.2mbpsTama si tech guy

My theory, and I have documented this in various emails to PLDT is that PLDTs DSL is probably oversubscribed in that I am kicked out(cannot connect) during hours of heavy usage since my usually practice is DSL connection "on-demand"...This further means that our wiring connection is not noisy nor the one responsible for me not getting connected.
Anyway, as I said earlier today, I was able to get a connection this morning and I never gave it up. And until now, after about 7 hours, I still have the DSL connection alive.... It still is slow though at about 150kbps.....
This won't serve our purpose. We were banking on 60% of the advertised speed of 999kbps for MyDSL so that my wife and myself can share the bandwidth. The speed is as pathetic as our SmartBro... Anyway, I will keep on monitoring and pestering PLDT with daily calls to their 172 and emails...
Of course, I will be very happy if proven wrong here...
It's not a good experience. These public utilities must perform to our expectations as (they have) advertised....

That was also my theory before because I knew that the phone line from the distribution box of PLDT to my house was newly replaced. I also don't hear any static in my phone. But when the PLDT technician measured the noise level (or voltage as they call it), they got quite a high reading. They then looked for the source of the noise and it was indeed the phone line. After replacing the line (around 6 spans), my connection never got disconnected any more. My PC is online 24/7 downloading stuffs.
Thanks for the feedback boybi......
I had the DSL connection online and access was without interruption for 7 hours yesterday (speed at only 150kbps on MyDSL), until the CSR of PLDT called me up and they asked me to turn-off my modem so that they can diagnose my problem and have it fixed remotely from the PLDT Exchange.... Well, they failed to and I cannot get a DSL green and go on my modem after that....What can I say?
They told me that a PLDT engr/tech is going to check our wiring/physical connection to have it fixed. I hope that they can do that soon!
Anyway, got the DSL LED light on for about 3-4 occasions after that but I cannot get access as I cannot do an ipconfig /renew or 'repair' for the IP address. Until now, that is the problem I am having. I think they did something on my line in the Exchange yesterday.....
boybi,- I think I should be the one who should have started this thread, huh?
I'll keep everyone posted.... hehehe
