So far I just have standard TV sets at home. I feel LCD/Plasma tvs are still expensive even if they have come down in price the last couple of years.

We have still 1. A Magnavox (Philips) 32" LCD tv.

CRT tv's.... we have 3. No pressing need yet to replace them.

Add: Make that 4 CRT tv's. I forgot to add the one in the den.

Maybe this December we'll have a big LCD screen to watch at home... a Samsung or Sony brand maybe.

Is an LCD/flat screen TV a recommendable rather than the projector type?

Kami naman sa bahay we have a 43inch TV in our theater and maganda pa rin naman ang performance. Its a Toshiba HD series na more than 9 years na and still working! Pati yung home theater system na sinet-up ko noon, maganda pa rin kaya I don't see the need of getting a new one. (hehehehe) Dami kasing competition lately!

But I heard that Samsung is better than Sony? Tama ba yun? Lalu na yung bagong labas na LCD nila? Korea is catching up ba?

    Not yet.

We have a 32" Sony Bravia in the living room.

Pero mas maganda ang picture ng 42" Samsung lcd, much much brighter and finer ang images .

Advice ko lang sa inyo if you plan to buy one, scout around for some great deals especially malapit na ang pasko. I plan to get the Samsung with their free home theater package (actually just add P5,000) then one year to pay Zero Interest .

Sulit talaga ang may lcd lalo na if you watch a lot of racing...kitang-kita mo ang mga small details like the decals on the race cars/bikes!

We already have the Black Sony Bravia (32"). I'm planning to get another one, this time, the 37" Samsung LCD naman.

I'm also in the same boat. I am thinking of getting a LCD projector (not a rear projection TV) for a home "cinema" setup. It can give me a bigger viewing area than a 42 inch plasma for less money. Of course, I would need to set aside some cash for some decent audio system and retractable projection screen as well.

One major downside of a LCD projector is the cost of a replacement bulb.

As for rear projection TVs, some of the drawbacks are:
    -narrow ideal viewing angle.
-screen not as "bright" when room is brightly lighted.
    -bulky
