Since work from home is over for us (bummer), I finally got to transform my former home office setup into what I really wanted it to be.

    Highlights:
    • Rig: Full mesh mid-tower case with vertical GPU mount, CPU air cooler, a couple of LED bars, 6 case fans, (they somehow all fit), and aRGB everywhere
    • Video: 34 in ultrawide + 24 inch widescreen (in portrait mode) both 1440p and an old GoPro Hero 8 (used as a webcam)
    • Computing: Ryzen 7 3700x, Radeon 6800XT, 32GB RAM (DDR4-4133 CL19), 2TB NVMe, 2x10TB HDD, 120GB SATA SSD, X570 mobo, Windows 11 and Ubuntu 20.04
    • Controls: Logitech G102 & G512 + Hori Fight Stick + Fantech mousepad
    • Audio: AKG studio headphones, cheapo BM800 mic, Edifier R2000DB stereo speakers, Hercules DJ Controller, One Odio DJ headphones, Behringer Q502 mixer+interface
    • Portables: MBP M1, MS Surface (old 5th gen), Samsung Galaxy Tab A (got this for free)
Use-case: Adobe CC & Captivate, development, project management, amateur audio, and gaming, of course

Autocad just needs at least 8gb of ram. An ssd would be nice to have though. Integrated graphics is ok if youre only doing 2d autocad work.

I would just get whichever Dell, Asus, or Acer is the best value. Check Villman or pchub for laptops.

    MSI Modern 14 B11M-652PH - Laptop Factory

    MSI Modern 15 A11M-81PH 15.6" i5-1155G7 | 8GB | 512GB | Win1 – DynaQuest PC

You could also opt for second hand on shops in FB.
There's a better chance you'll get a higher specs laptop (Intel i7 or better) for your budget.
For your budget, you'll most likely get an i3 and lower spec if brand new.

Of course, the best option is still to go to the mall or brick and mortar store and pick the unit yourself. Dynaquest has physical stores where you can pick up the item yourself.

    Secondhand X1 Carbon for 40k:
    Log in to Facebook

16GB RAM, i7 processor, crazy light, crazy good battery life.

I have a similar laptop (also X1 Carbon but with 512GB storage and 2560x1400 display) - almost 3 years old but still handles my resource-intensive work very well. Tibay ng X1 Carbon and will last you 5 years easily, maybe 10 if you take care of it well.

if the Macbook Air is an M1, it will run circles around the X1 Carbon. The video quality of the retina panel is much better too, heck, even the speakers sound better. The build quality is also better (metal vs plastic). It also is a lot quieter as the Macbook doesn't need a whirring fan.

The Macbook Air M1 will probably get a huge sale soon since the M1 Pros have just been released. It's rumored that an all-new version is due out late next year, though.
