Getting this thread up again. So I'm thinking of replacing all three with waterproof but those with ordinary LED bulb na de roscas na lang. Or I can buy solar na lang, parang parehong nasa 600-800 kesos range lang sila.

Buhayin ko itong thread. I just had 8kw system grid tie installed last week sa bahay.

I'm expecting na mabawasan bill ko sa second cycle ng billing for the day consumption then on process na din net metering, just waiting for the CFEI sa cityhall na lumabas.

Why 8kw system lang? Yun na lang ang pwede according to Meralco. I was originally planning to install 12kw but since gusto ko mag net metering eh hinde na pwede dahil hinde na kaya sa capacity ng transformer ni meralco dahil meron na din 3 kapitbahay na naka net metering.

Why didn't I went for hybrid with battery, talked with the installer about this and since hinde naman madalas mag blackout so hinde din talaga need plus siyempre mas mataas capital outlay. I'm trying to shorten the ROI as short as possible para pag mabawi ko in 2-2.5y or kahit minimal na lang baka meron ng new tech so pwede na ako mag upgrade agad.

What do you mean by self consumption?

We recently had solar panels installed also. After discussing with the supplier, he suggested to use 6kw & 20kwh for our batteries. I initially wanted to do net metering, but was able to talk to someone na nag apply din ng net metering. His application has been a year na & wala pa rin daw.

As far as I understand it, depends din daw kasi sa area. Once they make new ones to accept the excess kuryente from your solar panels, that's when they can accept applications again. Plus I think Meralco would buy your excess at a discounted price? 50% ba? So if you want to have net metering, dapat sobrahan yung panels. So the cost of the excess panels would take a longer time to recoup because of the discounted buying price of Meralco. So he suggested to go with batteries instead para instant ang savings.

Aside from net metering you might want to check out din Meralco's POP (Peak Off-Peak). Basically mas mahal kuryente during the day up until a certain time at night. Then mas mura kuryente after that till morning. So this would be ideal if wala masyadong tao sa house during the day or if naka solar ka. Will try to apply for this in the next few months. Here's the link: Peak/Off-Peak | Meralco

So far the 6kw is sufficent during the day. On a good sunny day, by 1pm, naka full charge na batteries ko. On a cloudy day, sometimes late afternoon na. On a rainy day, minimal lang. Then during the night aside from the usual normal consumption, may naka bukas na dalawang 1.5hp na aircon. Then naubos ang battery mga 10pm -12mn. Nag iwan pala ng 30% ang battery in case mag brownout, may konting reserba.

So from the avearge of P20k bill namin, naging around mga P10k+ na lang.

i have had a solar set up for almost 1 and a half year na. I applied net metering since it was installed and up to now wala pa rin.
LGU in Makati is asking for too many paperworks and kailagan ng too many signatories. basically red tape.
Wala pa dyan yung wait for Meralcos approval. makati LGU pa lang yan.
Kaya tama yung use of Batteries.
ako currently looking for a good batteries to add to my solar set up.
i also plan to add more panels.

For someone like me na 3.5k-5k yung bill monthly, parang no need pa for me to put-up the solar setup.

Ito explanation din sa amin yun self consumption niya is to balance and stabilize yun energy from grid and panel.

Why do you guys think the solar panels allegedly caught fire?

This happened daw in Vietnam kaya medyo Malabo iyong mga haka-hakang naka post.

    Could it be the batteries?

I can't speak for that incident but solar panel fires are not uncommon. If it has enough voltage and current passing through it and a safety mechanism fails, it can potentially self-combust.

Search Google for solar panel fires and you'll see.

So the recent hullabaloo about Meralco wanting stricter solar system certifications is not without merit.

enough voltage... enough current... shorted wires... batteries... the usual stuff.
may not even the solar electricity system itself... maybe something else beside it that is not related to it...

the solar panels themselves... not likely.

Solar panel for houses in Australia : Band aid solution to a greater problem, still a young technology, not regulated, if it cheaply manufactured = expect poor quality, need maintenance, additional personal time to manage, not technology to recycle the panle/not viable, roi is 7 years kahit meron government financial support, the Sun us free, but not equipment : Hence, hinde ako nagpakabit

if there's damage to the panel and there's high series voltage (lots of panels in series)... possible arcing, heat, fire
