Wow, July 2008 ang first post. Roughly 3 years na pala etong thread. I'll just post my vote and state my reasons why I support the official teaching of the Catholic Church in this matter... I respect anyone's choice, whether you're pro or against the RH Bill.
I simply depend on the solemn statement of the Church when it comes to faith and morals. This is not even a new issue for the Church. Back in 1968 Pope Paul the VI has issued an encyclical called Humanae Vitae which states the reasons why it is wrong to use contraception. It's here if you want to read it straight from the Vatican:http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/pa...-vitae_en.html
I urge you to read it, even if only to find more "ammo" to shoot the Church with=) If you had to endure the "antics" of Bishops Bacani and Cruz, what can you lose by spending a few minutes to read what the Church really teaches? You can still be Pro-RH afterwards, at least you had solid information about where the Church stands.
Peace![]()

the anti-RH bill proponents in twitter have brought up a new point:
"why waste taxpayer money on contraception when it should be used on more worthwhile things?"
easy rebuttal: The State has a responsibility to maintain the health of the people. The WHO definition of health irrevocably includes Reproductive Health. To deny reproductive health is a dereliction of duty on behalf of the state.
not convinced? eto nasa constitution natin:
"Section 11. The State shall adopt an integrated and comprehensive approach to health development which shall endeavor to make essential goods, health and other social services available to all the people at affordable cost. There shall be priority for the needs of the under-privileged, sick, elderly, disabled, women, and children. The State shall endeavor to provide free medical care to paupers."
integrated and comprehensive daw.

Freedom of choice. The core of the bill is that concept. It doesn't force people to follow it. It only makes such methods available to the people who choose to.
If the Church and some of its followers believe that such methods are immoral and wrong, then it is their freedom to refuse to utilize them and urge other people to do so, too. They can sermon, they can urge, they can convince, they can teach, they can even misinform like what they're doing right now but ultimately, they do not and should not have the right and power to outright bar and deny people from making that choice.
They want to RHB to fail? Then they should do so in the pulpit, but not in the streets, government buildings, newspapers and any other political arenas. To do so would be no different from a religious fundamentalist state which bases its laws on a specific religion and what that specific religion's views on right and wrong.
This is what ticks off a lot of people on the pro-RHB side. I'd dare even say that there are probably a number of people standing in the middle who're now drifting towards the pro side if only for the disgust and fear of the eventual consequences of the clergy's behavior, actions and words. This is not the martial law period, wherein there's a clear-cut distinction between black and white. The bishops at CBCP fancy themselves as Jaime Cardinal Sin too much, thinking they're infallible and forgetting about their own humanity.
The Church is still an organization made out of people and people, with only very few exceptions, are never, ever perfect.
Thanks for your comments.
Just in case I'm suspected of being a Roman Catholic plant, I am not. Minsan lang talaga ako mag-comment sa mga forum although I had once been very active at the Picanto Forum when my car was still new back in 2004.
Tsikot forums has always been one of those rare places when you can air your honest opinion and get generally responsible responses. I like it here. I hope it remains that way.
^_^
Jave,
Thanks for taking the time to write you reaction. I appreciate your comments.
CrtlAltDel, you may be one of the very few anti-RHB people who respect other people's opinions without invoking religious and moral judgement for it. What you just did is what the clergy should have done from the start.
Glad to have you onboard.
