LRT 2 ang pinakamaganda. Japanese Korean consortium ang gumawa at hindi Tinipid. Unlike MRT, cheapest SH*T trains ang ginamit.

MRT Spare Parts Woes Could Lead To Deaths
    By KRIS BAYOS
    October 18, 2012, 7:14pm

MANILA, Philippines --- Shortage of spare parts for the signaling and automatic fare collection systems of the Metro Rail Transit (MRT 3) can lead to “serious” operational accidents and even injuries or deaths to passengers and personnel.

This was among the revelations of MRT 3’s private owners, Metro Pacific Investment Corporation (MPIC), in an open letter it published earlier this week. MPIC owns the controlling block of shares in MRT Corporation (MRTC), which co-owns the rail system together with the national government.

The open letter was primarily meant to “correct wrong” assertions that MPIC-designated directors in MRTC objected to the hiring of a new maintenance provider for the MRT 3. But it also revealed technical lapses and limitations of the obsolete rail system and their consequences which the existing maintenance provider, Japanese firm Sumitomo Corporation, reported.

MPIC said the shortage of spare parts for the signaling system “might result in serious operational accidents and which could involve personal injuries or fatalities.”

This is because the signaling system monitors the movement of train coaches. Whenever trains beat their maximum speed limit or breaks the safe distance to prevent accidental collision, the train signaling system activates the emergency brake that stops the train.

The shortage of spare parts for the outdated automatic fare collection system (AFCS) is also a cause for alarm as it operates the entry and exit gates at each train station and reads and inputs credits to magnetic tickets. The tripping of the AFCS may force MRT 3 to revert to manual ticketing, which will cause hassle to more than 500,000 passengers riding the rail line daily.

The MRT 3 is originally designed to accommodate a daily average ridership of 350,000 but it is operating beyond its capacity. MPIC said the perennial passenger overloading poses serious maintenance and operational threats.

“Daily passengers have been increasing to the level exceeding the design capacity of 540,000 per day, which may create unexpected and repeated breakdowns and serious failures in rolling stock structure,” the MPIC said.

MPIC said it is not opposed to the plan of the Department of Transportation and Communications’ (DOTC) to find a new maintenance provider for MRT 3. It said the maintenance of MRT 3 was taken up by the MRTC Board last October 3 in a meeting wherein MRT general manager Atty. Al Vitangcol represented the DOTC.

“At the start of the meeting, in the presence of Mr. Vitangcol, Mr. Jose Ma. Lim stated that MPIC has no interest in MRTC retaining the services of Sumitomo for the maintenance of MRT 3 or in the extension of the Sumitomo contract,” the MPIC said.

“Also in that meeting, Mr. Vitangcol advised the MRTC Board that the DOTC will no longer agree to the extension of the Sumitomo maintenance contact beyond October 19, 2012 and requested MRTC to appoint an interim new maintenance provider within a period of two weeks,” it added.

The MPIC said the MRTC Board did not oppose the decision of DOTC not to extend the Sumitomo contract but, by a unanimous vote, declined the request of DOTC that MRTC handle the solicitation of the new interim maintenance provider.

But “for the safety of the riding public and to ensure the reliability and integrity of MRT 3,” MPIC said “the MRTC Board, by a unanimous vote, agreed to extend all cooperation and assistance to the DOTC in appointing a new interim maintenance provider for MRT 3, so that all the critical issues raised by Sumitomo in respect of the maintenance of the MRT 3 may be addressed immediately.”

to fix that mag distribute sila ng load just like celphone load... available sa mini stop 7-11 etc. usually ang haba ng pila nasa bilihan ng tilet dba? so if you distribute the loading facilities. iiksi na pila... and pati mga public utility rides like taxi or bus ( ppwede kaya sa jeep and tricycle?) para in the same process ma weed out colorum and lumaki din ang base ng use ng load na yun...

pero kung ang cause talaga ng pila ay yung security check ng mga bag na isa isa titignan, ala ako maisip na solution dyan...
