I did meet some like what you described. when we went there for a 1 month vacation, I witnessed both the good and the ugly side of being Fil-Ams. My dad, who came from a small provincial town, had so many long lost relatives there to the nth degree, as well as old schoolmates & friends.

for 1 whole month, wala kami boarding & travelling expenses hehehe. every night kung saan-saan bahay kami natutulog and sila na din Fil-ams ang nag-sked. every night during dinner, parati ko naririnig sila mga matatanda pinag-compare ang P'nas at America, pinag-uusapan na hwag daw kami matutulog kay ganito coz pangit daw haws nya. And when they asked kung san college ako nag-aaral, they answered si ganito sa ganyan gumradweyt, pero ang trabaho valet sa hotel etc. etc ...

sa amin naman mga youngsters, lagi sinasabi sa min magkapatid (in English), meron ba kayo ganito? ganyan? sa Pilipinas? (gadgets, CD's, electronics, games, branded clothing). syempre blank face na lang kami magkapatid coz wala nga kami nun, then after bibigay nalang nila samin yun hehehe. dami ko nga nauwi noon, mga CD's, 2 way radio, cd/dvd players, armani/levi's jeans, watches, old PC parts. PURO BIGAY kasi para sila naawa sila sa min.

during weekend filipino gatherings, usually may picnic/bbq sa isang pinoy house, and they would parade their Toyotas, Hondas, Benz, Volvos, BMWs, Vans, SUVs sa sidestreet parking. and then as usual, compare compare compare, brag brag brag.

I have nothing against naman sa mga healthy discussions nila and mga pagyayabang coz grabe nakatipid talaga dad ko ng pocket money. imagine libre kami sa disneyland, magic mountain, las vegas, knots berry, sea world, universal studios & movies eat all you can jap, mexican, american, italian foods. and we travelled in style pa with their luxury vehicles. dun lang ako nakatikim na susunduin ng BMW one day then the next day Benz and then state to state on board a Large Van with sofa.

Oks na oks naman talaga. It was a once in a lifetime treat & experience. Pero just a thought lang talaga, kapag maririnig nyo discussions both sa pang-matanda at pang-bagets -> If the Philippines was a person, malamang magpakamatay na talaga ang taong ito sa sobrang humiliation at panlalait na maririnig nya.
