er... that's a chicken and egg discussion...

it's like asking private citizens not to commit heinous crimes.

I personally don't like the death penalty, but I feel that kidnappers and killers aren't worthy of our mercy.

Whichever it is... I think it's a lame political ploy of GMA's that's just gone over people's heads. They know why she's doing it, so why bother?

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

di naman... strict enforcement of the law lang naman kailangan. masyado kasi tayong mapagbigay.

the IMAGE of our law enforcers is a big factor here.

how could the death penalty be a deterrent to heinous crimes if the gov't is not implementing it. that is why even if we have the death penalty in place, people are still bold enough to commit heinous crime since they know that they will not be executed especially if we have a president like gloria who only makes decision just to please a chosen few.

i say we should execute those criminals, televise it for the whole Filipinos to see and make them realize that crime do pay. look at what happened when Marcos ordered the execution of Lim Seng at Luneta for drug related crime.

i pity the relatives of the victims.. it's like the gov't and human rights lawyers are even on the side of the criminals. they say that these criminals have human rights also, that we should protect their rights.. did these criminals give a s**t about their victim's human rights? what the gov't and those so called human rights lawyers do is protect the victims instead.

    What?????????????

this will send a wrong signal to those would be victims, na ilagay na lang sa kanilang kamay ang death penalty.

    bad move for the president
sana nga ina-upgrade pa niya from lethal injection to electric chair
at the same time pag pulis/sundalo ang criminal, death by firing squad

may true story movie na ganito ata dati sa isang state sa US. tinelevise nila yun electric chair prisoner. madami daw naihi noon sa takot. and crime rate went down.

pero what's even more surprising eh opposition agree sa lifting ng death penalty. hmmm... bakit kaya?

I am reminded of an old Ren & Stimpy cartoon wherein the boys try to get into jail so that they can get free meal and lodging. By removing the death penalty, this tactic will become more attractive to the hopeless. Imagine them not having to work for a living and get fed for it.
Anyway, the death penalty isn't really a good deterrent when enforcement of the law is lax as it is here.

you have a point. baka ang madami batang kalye ang gumawa ng masama knowing na after nila gawin yun, for life na ang sustento nila from the govt.

Dapat exhaust all measures to know kung totoong guilty yung ma-execute.
