'Don't count out Erap in 2010'
MANILA, Philippines - With two brand-new King Air turboprop aircraft and at least 20 vans at his disposal, former President Joseph Estrada will surely run for president in next year’s elections, a former party mate said yesterday.
Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile also advised presidential aspirants yesterday not to take Estrada for granted despite his being an “enigma” as far as the legality of his seeking re-election is concerned.
In an interview over radio dzBB, Enrile noted that Estrada has just purchased two brand- new King Air turboprop aircraft and at least 20 vans, purportedly for his campaign.
“But we are talking of political strength, a realistic assessment of the political strength of each one, as far as I’ve seen, because I am with him in the different parts of the country, from north to south… I think they are going to have a problem with Erap,” Enrile said, referring to Estrada by his nickname.
“(He has) two 350 King Air, 20 vans for political campaigning. Kung di pa proof yan na tatakbo, ewan ko na lang kung anong kailangang ebidensya na tatakbo. Tatakbo ‘yan (If that is not a proof that he is running I don’t know what evidence is needed, he will definitely run,” he said.
Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel Jr. also recognized Estrada’s stature in Philippine politics and his charm.
Estrada also has the funds to finance a long campaign, and as it is, enjoys about 10 to 15 percent advantage over other presidential bets, Pimentel said.
Estrada won the presidency in 1998 but was deposed in 2001 following controversy over his alleged acceptance of money from jueteng, an illegal numbers game. He was convicted of plunder in 2007 but was pardoned a month later by President Arroyo.
Estrada, a former actor, has threatened to run for president in 2010 if the opposition fails to unite and field a single candidate to challenge the administration standard-bearer. He only placed sixth in the latest SWS survey, which Sen. Manny Villar topped.

MANILA, Philippines—Senator Maria Ana Consuelo “Jamby” Madrigal has announced she will join the 2010 presidential race.
“Today I crossed the Rubicon. I am certain in my decision to run for the presidency of the Republic of the Philippines,” Madrigal said at a press conference in Makati Friday.

Another TRAPO decides to run. Oh great should make the list a bit longer...
Aba....siguro lahat ng NPA ay magpaparehistro bumuto kung kakandidato si Jumbo Madrigal.
With the fragmented opposition already fielding different personalities, the better the chances of the current administration's anointed sucessor. I think it's more of a ploy by Jamboy to blackmail the so-called "united' opposition in exchange for something. Similar to what Ping Lacson did in 2004.
I hope someone like Eddie Gil run again just to provide comic relief... Sino pa yung isa yung pro-American? Si Elly Pamatong ata yun...
Here I got this from Wikipedia, laugh trip talaga!
Eddie Gil's candidacy
The Commission on Elections originally affirmed the candidacies of six people for the president. The sixth person running for president was Eduardo "Eddie" Gil, a known Marcos loyalist. The party of Eduardo Villanueva filed a petition with the COMELEC seeking to disqualify Eddie Gil on the basis of him being a nuisance candidate, his incapacity to mount a nationwide campaign, and that because he was running with the aim to confuse voters because of their similar names.
Eddie Gil claims to be an international banker having a net worth of billions of dollars. His platform for presidency promised to make every Filipino a millionaire within his first 100 days of being elected. He also promised to pay off the Philippines' debt, worth trillions of pesos, from his own pocket. This was widely ridiculed, especially after a recent incident in which a check he had issued to pay his hotel bills during a campaign sortie, bounced.

Cojuangco party bucks unity slate

THE Nationalist People’s Coalition will not sacrifice its presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the sake of uniting the opposition as suggested by former President Joseph Estrada.
The party would only agree to a single opposition slate if the other parties such as the Nacionalista Party of Senator Manny Villar, the Liberal Party of Senator Mar Roxas, Estrada’s Partido ng Masang Pilipino
and Mayor Jejomar Binay’s United Opposition would carry the NPC’s presidential bet.
Gatchalian was referring to Senators Loren Legarda and Francis Joseph Escudero, who both ran under the Genuine Opposition party in the 2007 mid-term elections and ranked first and second, respectively.
Escudero and Legarda are garnering high ratings in the popularity surveys of Pulse Asia and the Social Weather Stations, Gatchalian noted. “It’s really a toss-up between Senators Escudero and Legarda as far as NPC’s standard beareris concerned,” he stressed.
