why would you vote for incompetent candidates?

coz you dislike the other side so much you'll vote for the incompetent opponents just to spite the other side

I think around 8%, more or less, of the population still cling to EDSA-coalition pipe dreams. It is actually hard to actually break free from such mind conditioning, especially those who grew up reading Inquirer and watching these agenda-driven TV and radio networks.

I can understand those who prefer the old system aka Delawan aka EDSA coalition, and who are actually related, as in directly related, to the wealthy families in the Philippines. These clans number below a hundred, and they are the actual elites of our society. It is detrimental to their financial and social health to allow someone like Duterte to rock the status quo, one in which they have lorded over all of us for centuries.

Those who do not belong to the oligarchy but still think maintaining such a status quo benefits them, pity would be the apt word.

    PS
If you're simply upper middle class, you still don't belong to the elites.

many upper middle class/middle class "elitists" benefited indirectly from the delawan oligarchy via trickle-down effects

dagdag mo pa ung discrimination against promdis (may punto) coz that reminds them of household help = 2nd class citizens = don't deserve to be the country's leaders

    that explains the anti-du30 sentiment

baket nga ba elitists feel entitled that they should be the country's rulers?

    ano yan monarchy?

    bred to be royalty?

Yes, I think that has been the long-standing joke in our society.

They are referred to as the "social climbers." Of course the elites used to call the upper middle class "social climbers," and the upper middle used that term as an insult to the middle classes, and then the middle classes used it to emphasize their economic and social superiority over the C and D people.

Nobody even bothered to correct the usage, or the ensuing mentality even now. As long as one could thumb his nose down on his inferiors, it was all good.

Ahh, the exhilarating feeling of seeming richer than you really are

It didn't matter that only the top 1% of our society really ultimately benefited from such mores.

Or are we now switching the words "cops" and Duterte himself to make all these feasible ?

Spin doctors have been with us long before Duterte.

And from the looks of surveys--which btw I'm not such a big fan of, majority of the 16M you trivialize not only stuck to their guns but have grown their numbers--as of last count 78% of the population approve of Duterte--this has grown beyond those who originally voted for Duterte. I guess those people who voted for candidates other than Duterte do not have "pride," they are in effect admitting "palpak ang binoto nila, ergo palpak decision nila"--they now admit they should have voted for Duterte
Misgivings? Wow sa dami ng kapalpalakan ni PDuts kelangan pa isa-isahin para sa iyo? Wow ha. Ikaw na.

Re surveys, being in the majority does not mean you are right. Yes PDuts and his minions still have the support of the majority of Filipinos. The last election proved that. But as Einstein once said, to be wrong you need only 1 right. Ergo to be in the majority does not mean you are right as well. I have to accept that the majority of Filipinos have spoken but that does not mean I have to agree with them. And not agreeing with them does not mean I am not being a good cotozem of this country. I believe majority of anti-duterte here are good citizens of this country. We may not agree with the admins actions but we are for the nation's building. Unlike those who vired just to spite, using emotiona rather than reasons to hell with everybodey else. That is why I said as a nation, our electorate is not that reliable in their choices sad to say.

Like I said you'd probably not change your mind as I am. So let's leave it at that.

I'm just a common government employee. Kumita ba ako sa panahon ni PNoy? Well yes, the same way I got a salary from the time of Erap and GMA. All I want is simple decency and having a boss worth emulating. Not a walking/talking contradiction. None of this "I hate drugs", pero tikom bibig nung nakalusot ang P11B na shabu sa customs. Telling me to respect women, and yet talks about raping and molesting them. Galit sa corrupt pero ok lang tumanggap ng "gifts".

Our beloved president is the classic example of a smooth talker. He has the charisma of a snake oil salesman, and gullible people, thinking he has the cure to all of society's ills in his medicine chest, gobble up his every word and promise of a better tomorrow. Educated and enlightened people on the other hand, know better. They see through his deceit almost instinctively. They know it's all smoke and mirrors. All talk and no action. Sadly, there are a lot of them gullible people out there.

Well, we do need some talking points right ?

And while I would indeed like to have the ability to read minds, sadly it's a superpower I still don't have at the moment. So, no, I don't have an inkling on what you consider to be "kapalpakan ni PDuts." And sorry, I would not like to assume anything regarding your opinion on this particular topic. Edi Wow. Ako na nga.

Also, we need talking points because it's really so easy to say this and that in passing, but when pressed further simply say some questions don't need answering.

Of course plurality does not guarantee being in the right.

It did feel good though when I was able to turn around in style what you said, insinuating that maybe it was only due to pride that I still supported Duterte, to avoid admitting "palpak ang binoto nila, ergo palpak ang decision nila."

It was curious to me that you said that, possibly rationalizing in your mind how Duterte could manage that kind of approval rating while you yourself have been agonizing over everything related to this administration.

Curious because you managed to concoct an explanation for the behavior of roughly 78% (again, surveys tsk) who apparently do not agree with your own opinions. But did it ever occur to you that your "explanation" in all likelihood applies better to your own situation ? By your own admission wala ka nang bilib kay Duterte campaign period pa lang, right ?

So, you believe the majority of anti-Duterte guys are good citizens of this country ? What is a "good citizen" to you ?

I'd be a little careful with claims about nation-building. That may bring more baggage than what you were expecting.

    Well, if you say so.

But in my experience people who say something like that most likely are either not very sure about their convictions, or have already made up their minds in spite of reasonable counter-arguments. I'm not saying this applies to you, just simply throwing it out there.
