Not just due to privacy concerns, but because government being what it is, I can just see them abusing this program to the max later in the future, for whatever purpose, legal or otherwise. And did I hear correclty that children as young as 5 years old need to apply for this National ID?

Oh they'll weaponize that ID system for sure. No more checks and balances here. Even the judiciary has been weaponized.

If the police were scary before, think how much scarier they will be with all the data.

National ID system is great if there are functioning safeties in place. But in the current environment, think twice.
