I don't think so. She is now part of the Duterte administration (part of the contingent from the left who were given government positions). She used to be highly vocal about human rights issues, police/military brutality/abuses and anti-Marcos. But now she is surprisingly quiet over these.

The political left suffers, I think, from Cold War nostalgia. Of longing for an era of communistic brotherhood that likely never was.

They (perhaps rightly) see US interests as self-serving and imperialistic. Never mind what benefits we may accrue, as any gift of capitalistic imperialism is helplessly poisoned.

They idealistically see Beijing as a staunch ally in the fight for brotherhood and equality. Never mind the fact that radicals have been slaughtered wholesale there, and the same voices of dissent are silenced quite brutally. Then again, can our democracy claim to be any less bloodstained? Maybe. Maybe not.

In the end, Beijing only cares about Beijing. Both China and Russia are suffering from the effects of the global recession and political weakness. One good way to rally people behind the government is to find enemies, and China has villainized the Philippines simply to distract people from the corruption, the grand and useless infrastructure spending and the pending economic slowdown.

Will they give us money? That's a laugh. If you can mollify the Bestest President in the Universe with a cheap-ass "drug rehab" dormitory that likely cost all of thirty million pesos to build... and by lifting a ban that affected a mere million pesos worth of bananas out of the SEVEN BILLION PESOS worth of bananas they did not ban last year... why spend any more than that?

Sometimes I think we would have been better off with Binay even though I thoroughly detest and abhor him and his politics.

Yun lang, he would have sold the Philippines wholesale to China but kept up good US-PH relations.

I met one of them last week by chance. My mind was like... "Sorry na sa lahat ng nognog jokes... alam naman natin na magnanakaw pa rin kayo pero at least predictable si Binay as a president".

Alam nyo si binay sya ang politician na masipag talaga pumunta sa mga burol. Talaga makamahirap. Oo kahit sabihin half-hearted pamumulitika eh meron effort hindi takot madumihan.

Kung nanalo binay yari kayo sa mga anak. Siga-siga mga yun. Nagpapayong sa gabi kahit walang ulan. Gusto ko na lang isipin matalino bodyguard para mablock cctv.
